If you're open to online play, you have a lot of options. I'm not
sure there's such a thing as a decent single player military shooter.
Maybe the Arma series covers that ground?

All of the ones I'm aware of are online games first and foremost. The
reason is that to provide anything remotely resembling an interesting
war-like combat scenario, you're going to need humans on the other end
of those guns firing at you. Bots work up to a certain point, but I
think most people would find them unsatisfying. Rainbow Six Siege
lets you play against bots, but of course it's nothing like the real
game, they are mostly just strategically placed enemies that fire on
you with varying degrees of skill, and "difficulty" is created by
things like creatively placing them in the room (such that you may
need to engage one of them in such a way that it opens you to fire
from a second bot that you wouldn't have a visual on until you were
already trading fire with the first one).

There is something about a "designed experience" that just doesn't
work in military style shooters, unless you're prepared to REALLY use
your imagination.

Squadding up and becoming part of a real team playing against other
real teams gives the experience most people are looking for, but of
course comes with all the trade offs of real team play (like varying
levels of skill or cooperation from guys on your own team, etc).
