>What have you been playing... IN SEPTEMBER 2016?

After completing Witcher2, I've put off starting another big RPG, and
picked out a few titles from scrolling through the steam backlog:

    Tron 2.0!
This game is 13yrs old! but looks and plays beautifully on modern machines,
thanks to the 'vector graphics' neon artstyle, that's intended to look
retro, and also to some dedicated fans and their unofficial patch & launcher
(refer to the steam community guide for installation). I ran it at 1440p
with no issues, and no glitches.

Most definitely a platformer, and you'll be spamming the quicksave button --
I'd strongly suggest playing on Easy. But the real draw here is the writing.
So many tongue-in-cheek computer jokes and jargon wordplay, that you'll be
chuckling repeatedly, and there's a light-hearted tone that makes coming
back for another gameplay session a joy; it strikes me as a very young-adult
friendly game. The musical score is also well-done. Highly recommended!

    SOMA
I'll be vague to avoid any spoilers here, but SOMA is basically a really
good science fiction novella, put into interactive game form. The
underwater base environments are believable, and the several deep-sea
excursions your character takes are immersive and visceral. There are some
affecting end-of-life scenes, and numerous discussions between characters on
the nature of being. The science fiction setting and touches of dark humor
are a good vehicle for drawing the player in to the discussion, and
instilling empathy for others.

Memories of a world lost forever are in every found personal item, and a
pervasive melancholy is a constant undercurrent, but still there's a touch
of, if not hope, then wonder? This is a title that will stay with you for a
long time: Highly recommended!

In progress:
    Portal 2
    Resident Evil 6
