I had to download GTA5 on a super-slow DSL link; it took over a week. Too often publishers just assume that everybody has a fast, uncapped internet connection; even though the majority of people in the US now have internet access, a good chunk of them still are constrained to "sub-broadband speeds" (<10Mbps). Expecting these people to download a 50GB game at those speeds can only cost them sales. Worse is the games you buy in a store that only contain a Steam (or other client) installer and no actual gamefiles. I can't understand that logic. Even if the game version isn't up-to-date, by putting the data-files on the disc you can save the player from having to download 10s of GBs. That's why I always backup and archive my digital downloads to an external HDD; that way if I want to play the game again, I don't have to spend days watching the download gauge slowly tick to the right. (well, okay, the last isn't really that accurate anymore, since I finally gave up on DSL and finally have high-speed internet. These days its actually significantly faster for me to just download a game anew rather than pull out the HDD and let the game restore the backup. I still back everything up though, just in case I'm forced back into the slow-lane) > >Oh well! I have too many games in waiting anyway. See? They cost themselves a sale. Silly publishers.
