The problems with Linux run deeper. The driver model bound so heavily to
the kernel simply is nightmarish and braindead. For every driver update
you have to recompile the kernel or at least the driver against the
Kernel. There is no stable driver API and never will be, due to
Thorvalds being dickheaded about it.

Then there is the whole X-Windows mess and believe me it is a mess. AMD
never managed to bring out stable drivers by following the rules and
NVida only because they replaced lots of parts of X-Windows by their own
code and breaking the rules.

X-Windows will be replaced in the long run, but the next generation
graphics system for Linux has been overdue now for five years and still
no end in sight til it is finished.

To sum it up. Linux simply is a miserable platform for games and in my
opinion generally a mess.

Actually Sony uses a FreeBSD derivate with their own gaming API which
is comparable to DirectX12/Vulcan/Mantle.
One of the many reasons why the PS4 performs so much better than the XBONE.
