Generally Windows craps all over OS X for gaming. Most Mac owners
that are interested in playing performance intensive 3D games and have
a GPU capable of doing so either install Windows on their Mac and dual
boot to it, or they stick to playing games where performance is less
of a consideration (Civilization etc).

Part of this is that Mac owners tend to own use iMacs or Macbooks (for
the price) and they of course do not have the proper airflow for
powerful GPUs.

I looked in the Mac app store at Shadow of Mordor for OSX to see how
it was holding up, and it's getting panned in the app store reviews
because people are saying it doesn't run, it isn't clear on which
hardware it will run, etc.

That's one problem with gaming on Macs, if you asked Mac owners what
kind of hardware they have probably 70% of them wouldn't be able to
tell you anything other than "uhh... it's a 2013 iMac" or similar.
They are more likely to be able to tell you the screen size than what
sort of GPU they have. Last time I checked you could get decent GPUs
in the upper-end Mac Pros, but a gamer is not going to drop six grand
on a system with a limited library that can't keep pace with a $1k PC.
