I thought it might bring the laptop some life, and would be nice to sit on the couch with the laptop and play some somewhat newer games. It was over wifi, and even some retro ones I tried like Terraria were just too slow to play at all. > Mhh define slow, did the laptop have problems with the h264 stream encoding? Was the latency to high in the network? If the laptop is to slow for h264 then there is nothing you can do except for trying to enable hardware decoding (there is a setting for that on the steam inhome streaming client advanced settings) if you are lucky you have some kind of hardware decoding unit on your laptop. If you have problems with the latency, move nearer to your hotspot or go for a cabled lan. Wifi is not ideal for game streaming due to incoherent speed and latency compared to cable, but it works for slower paced games. If you have problems regarding fps on the server, try to enable hardware encoding there as well.
