Howdy all, Yesterday I fired off a question to gam...@crack.com, and I thought I'd post it and their answer for everyone's knowledge. My question concerned Crack.Com's accepting 3rd part add-on levels for a forthcoming CD they'll be releasing in November (see gamedev.txt)... Some of the better DOOM 3rd party WADs dealt with existing "properties" or copyrighted ideas (ie. the Aliens levels/GFX/SFX/monsters, Simpsons GFX/SFX, OneMustFall -DOOM Must Fall- GFX/SFX, Terminator SFX/etc, etc). I had heard RUMOURS that Paramount wasn't "overjoyed" with at least one of the AliensDOOM projects, and the Disney Sound WAD was yanked off of CDROM.COM shortly after it's release SUPPOSEDLY in response to a Disney rep making a complaint. Since these add-ons were free for the taking (on FTP sites, AOL, BBSs, etc) there's apparently no problem in regards to copyright infringements. However, I was wondering if this WOULD pose a problem if Crack.Com was to include some copyrighted themes/characters/sounds/etc in their "official" Abuse levels CD, considering it was being sold by them. I certainly wouldn't have any problem with AliensABUSE or TerminatorABUSE or LeaveItToBeaverABUSE, but I thought Crack.Com would not want those type of levels on their add-on CD just to avoid any potential copyright hassles. If that's the case, I thought they might want to mention it in their upcoming official shareware and registered releases gamedev.txt file, and 3rd party levels like these could be released for free consumption by their creators (just like DOOM). This is the answer I got: > We would like the add-ons to be whatever you think is best for your level. > > =-ddt-> :) Well, there we go. Straight from id heaven. <G> So if anyone was wondering this same thing, that's the answer. Regards to all, -Shriker p.s. Where are people uploading their new Abuse levels (ftp/www) ?
