In article <77308-8...@mindlink.bc.ca>, Eugen_...@mindlink.bc.ca (Eugen Woiwod) says: > >Well if OS/2 is so dead, then explain why it's used with bank machines, >prison's, stores etc etc, and we got quite a few OS/2 run BBS's down here >in British Columbia. I think too many people are BELIEVING the hype about >WIN95 and when something goes wrong when using WIN95, they try to convince >themselves that it was a screwup on thier part, and not on how bad WIN95 >is. If Microsoft hadnt paid so many pc makers to have win 3.1 preinstalled, >and now win95 preinstalled, then other companies like IBM would have had a >chance to compete. It's a no win situation, either Microsoft dies or >Microsoft forces all of us to use WIN95 as the industry will doubtlessly >get stupid enough to make WIN95 app's only. > Micro$oft doesn't pay anyone to install DOS or any version of Windows on a maching (anyone, here, means end user or OEM). In fact, OEMs pay M$ for the rights to install DOS and Windows on machines they sell, because that happens to be the most popular operating arrangement. Now, since Bill Gates (regardless of technical capability, he's a brilliant business man...you can disagree when you're worth overn $10Billion) has a license for the OEMs that makes it very unattractive to install anything but DOS and Windows, it's very rare to get Linux or OS/2 or anything else pre- loaded on a PC.
