Z comp.theory: zmarl Khachian, tworca algorytmu elipsoidalnego i
aotor dowodu o wielomianowej zlozonosci programwoania liniowego.

A.L.

"It's with sadness that I share the news that Dr. Leonid Khachiyan
unexpectedly died in his sleep from a heart attack this past Friday
morning (April 29).just a few days shy of what would have been his
53rd birthday.

Professor Khachiyan was of course best known for his ellipsoid
algorithm which settled the long outstanding problem of whether
the linear programming problem could be solved in polynomial time.
In addition to being a top researcher, he was also an excellent
teacher winning Rutgers' CSGSS (Computer Science Graduate Student
Society) teaching award several years ago.

For more information about Khachiyan, see the following page which
also contains half a dozen links to some Press articles about
Khachiyan and his passing.."
