At what point in the Terror From The Deep game do you encounter Lobstermen?
I thought it was as soon as you started research into any Sonic firearm
technology...

Honestly can't remember, but they are bastiches!! grr ;)
Problem is, stun attacks can work great on them IIRC, but, with the research
bug in TFTD, you don't WANT to capture any creatures you don't *need*. so I
was stunning them and dropping grenades on them ;)

Hmm - interesting.

Yes they are awkward critters to kill, however this is part of the appeal...

Use Vibroblades and they turn into Turkeymen.

Heavy Thermic Lances, more like - and sometimes they survive one of these
attacks...

It's terrible to fight them until you have heavy equipment.

Harpoon shots *ploink* *ploink* *ploink* - Aqua grenade *blomp* - More
Harpoon shots *ploink ploink ploink*
Another grenade *blomp*....and still not hurt enough for it to pass out.
I'd run out of Harpoon ammo and would have to leave the battle without a
single kill or recovery of a stunned/wounded Lobsterman.

As I recall, the Vibroblade was fine. The heavy thingamabob was just
slower to use and took more inventory space and like you said, still
didn't guarantee one hit was a kill.

I have used a full Gauss Rifle clip, 15 rounds and still not dropped one.
However a hit from a Sonic Pulsar or Cannon, plus 1-2 hits from a Guass
Rifle will drop one.
Thermic dagger takes 2 hits, but at 5 TUs per, its a bargin. Its just a
bitch to get into position to hit them.
Also a Displacer Torp normally does not drop them either. :(

Heh oh yes!

I recall the very first ever time I met them. I'd just equipped my ten very
green agents with the Dart Gun (that feeble pistol jobbie) and a bunch of
grenades, plus the old Thermal Tazor thing. We'd taken down their small USO
in shallow coral reefs just outside Sydney, and having gotten used to
Gillmen, I was pretty confident I could kick alien butt!

When we found our first Lobsterman, we kinda shot it a few times - dink!
dink! dink! dink! dink! I only lost one X-Com agent, but it was walking
over grenades and all sorts, so I fought a /cough/ tactical withdrawal...

"Run away! Run away!"

... to find two more critters between me and the submarine! We stunned one,
and then started throwing it about the battle scope towards our craft...

Two agents returned with half a Lobsterman! :)

I'll have to start again - I have access to Sonic technology but no
Lobstermen! :(

Hah. Vibroblades are more than adequate given how fast they
attack.
