X-Com Video Help

Hey all,

I very recently purchased X-Com Collector's Edition cd-rom at Software Etc.,
only to find that the video is garbled.

I checked the Microprose site, only to find that it is now owned by Atari.
I found support info for X-COM UFO, but no patch for the video. Maybe they
just haven't got round to the patch for XP yet.

Anyway, I got on dejanews and found a couple people talking about this same
problem, and some folks actually wrote little files to fix this stuff, but
they don't work for me.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I would appreciate any help you could offer.

Thanks,

Don in Utah

in windows try going into Control-panel then Display then Advanced. then
look around for the "hardware acceration" slider (for me in win2k it's under
the troubleshooting tab). turn the slider down and it may fix the problem.

Think you need to run Dxdiag and disable DirectDraw acceleration to run the
game. Also use a cpu slowdown utility (eg turbo, moslo) to prevent
occasional crash.

I had this exact same problem, but it's really much simpler than that.
Neorapsta was right: just go to www.xcomufo.com and get the patched
executables. They fix the "stride" problem and the games work
perfectly (well the smoke still looks like bubbles, but the game is
100% playable).
