Hi all, I used to be a big player of the X-com series but when I upgraded to
windows XP I found I was unable to play any of the ones I had.
Can anyone tell me how i can get hold of the original X-coms which would
work on my system?
Cheers all

I'm afraid I don't know where you could find them, but did you try the
collector's edition? It's modified to run on Windows, even XP though
you'll also need either fOdder's graphics patch or Xcomutil (which
includes said graphics patch). Runs fine on my XP computer. The
scrolling on the geoscape is a little fast, but it's workable.

You can get a copy at the Gaming Lounge. It's the copy
that was on the cover disk of PC Gamer awhile ago. Free
download. I believe it's the same as the one that was also
in the Collector's Edition.

    Check: http://www.xcomufo.com/

For FAQ's, Guides and etc. to run it in whatever
OS you are using (I have it running find in XP
Professional SP 1 with Fodder's patch).

Warez, as I understand it, is pirated games that
is current. This hasn't been sold in years. Get a
clue. (note: Having PC Gamer offer it on a 'cover
disk' 4 some year's ago should of been a good
indication too:)

But still, it isn't legally "abandonware" until the company that holds
the rights says it is.

Warez is any pirated game. This is just oldwarez. You fuck.
BTW PC Gamer gave the owners lots of bling to be allowed to put it on
their cover disk. You didn't give anyone bling, not even PC Gamer, so
you don't deserve shit. Fag.

Nothing is ever legally "abandonware" cause "abandonware" isn't a legal
concept.

Warez is ANY illegal software you can download off the 'net.
It doesn't matter how old it is unless its copyright has expired.
Then it's public domain.

Obtw, I have the original UFO: Enemy Unknown
(counldn't wait for the US copy. Game rumor and
reviews made this sound too good...AND it was!),
and the Collector's Edition (which I believe is the
same as the PC Gamer copy).

So take it easy young man.

It's not "love" so much as it is "puppy love". ;o)

But "XCOM" isn't abandonware according to the "Ethical" definition either,
since it's still available for sale under the "Sold Out Software" brand.
It may have been a while since its last pressing for SOS, but it's still
available.
