Hi y'all
I was one of the artists who was fortunate enough to work on the X-Com
series (specifically EU psx, TFTD, Apocalypse).
I've been looking round the groups for some of the games I've worked on in
the past. This is by far the most active and has the best community spirit.

It still is one of my favorite games ever, I'd love to bring it up to date,
but I can't see my current boss going for it somehow. There is a hardcore
group of fans at work though, so you never know.

I just wanted to say thanks for keeping it alive.

Regards

Well, join up with one of the community open-source projects. Even helping
out occasionally would, I'm sure, be great.

I know of 3: EDF, which doesn't look like its moving forward, but still
could in the future.
2: Talon, which is a month or so old, so it is too early to see what it'll
turn out like.
3: Xenocide which has a huge following, and a geoscape demo.

they are all hosted on sourceforge.net

I want someone to make an Acpocalypse (or hack) that makes it work on
WindowsXP without OS acrobatics. Every single published work
around...well..doesn't, at least for me...and it's like my fave game.
Thanks for many happy hours Drew...maybe someday I'll get to beat it.

Peace,
Pen

I think it would depend how close it was to the original, and whether it was
actually called x-com, and whether the in-trouble Infogrammes, and the now
defunct Hasbro interactive, knew and could be bothered to pursue it.

;-)

I downloaded the Xenocide demo yesterday. =)

I'd hope you'd get involved with them all ;-) I think that artwork will be a
limiting factor for all 3 projects, as they're all open source, anything you
do for one could be used for the others.

Who is responsible for the cookie monsters in Apocalypse?

I wish we'd get another X-Com game. I don't just mean the setting, I
mean the way they innovated. UFO Aftermath certainly won't be.

it *could*. I mean, it could be taken over by a bunch of talented,
hartdworking people prepared to actually do something.... Perhaps you could
be one of those people? Alternatively, sign up for the other projects and
help them instead, even if you just supply encouragement.

The monsters were designed by illustrator Tim White. Can't remember who
modelled or animated any one in particular cos I wasn't involved in that
bit.

How about keeping it exactly like the old one but with modern graphics
a few more weapons and ships and so on? I mean come on, there is a
demand for this game. If you want I can do the marketing campaign...I
am looking for a new job anyway :)

I hope you guys get through to your bosses!

 Yeah, bugs an' all! ;)
Isn't that what Xenocide is? Or are they changing everything, too?

Make up your mind - do you want the same game, or a different one? ;p

The EDF guys don't even have anything to work with but pipe dreams. The
most advanced thing I ever saw from them was a high poly model of some
stupid alien which looked like a deformed piece of seaweed rather than
an animate object.
