And wouldn't be vulnerable to psionics...

Well... a tank has a greater moving rate than a flying suit. Also, it can
take a few hits. That's enough. Those rookies cost a lot, taking into
account the fact that the scouts tend to get shot at. A tank, usually, can
take it.

Yes it is cheaper for sure. IMO, hover tanks should only be used for
those important assault missions like the big ships, alien bases and
the final battle.

Even cheaper for scouting are rookies with nothing equipped. That's
what I would use.

Tanks. Always tanks. If they blow up, it's just scrap metal and
electronics. No letters that need to be written to families of the
rookie who died. 'Least that's how I play.

*Sure* about that? One -can- control the (supposedly) robotic cyberdisc
and sectopod ...

(I don't know whether hovertanks are immune ... and rarely use them)

And a near infinite supply of free, powerful ammo. And you don't loose
all the increases in stats if it blows up. There size can sometimes
make maneuverability a problem, but occasionally you can just use lots
of shots of their plentiful ammo to carve a way through the scenary.

I'd go for two or three roks without any armour, or wearing cast off armour
that my experienced soldiers no longer use. And I rarely use flying armour
before the final mission; I never have the elerium to spare.

IMO, it's not so much a question of what's cheaper per se, but rather
equipment. Once I start flying around with Avengers, the 80-item limit
hurts a lot when you've got 26 guys to outfit. Now, if you put in two
plasma hovertanks, they have high movement, shoot back when they get
shot at (assuming they've got enought TUs left) because they've got
the armor, and the soldiers can be fully equipped. 1 heavy plasma, 1
spar clip, 1 medi-kit, that's 78 items already, if you've got 26 men.
