I will be starting to set up a FAQ for the newbies here.
So some of the Regulars will be getting some mail soon asking
for their ideas + views. Also, you can reply to the newsgroup if
YOU have anything to add!

Actually, if you can contact Kasey Chang, I believe this will assist, if not
supply all relevant information, since he compiled the original 'unofficial'
FAQ's and guides for UFO and TFTD. Sorry if this usurps your attempts, but
I thought it may be useful.

Yes, this is a topic I greatly agree with. I think If we all speak up and
tell each other what we expect from this news group it will help those
checking us (the news group) out for the first time. It will give them an
idea off the news groups expectations?

My Ideas are :

1) To keep all topics of discussion X-COM based, as the majority are at the
moment. The last thing I'd like to see or read about is some other X-COMee
talking about his adventures in C&C or CIV. If I want to know about other
games I would visit other game sites like,
"comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic." :~ )

2) FLAMERS, it would be nice and different (compared to some game news
groups) if we could keep our conversasions, pleasant, funny, and
encouraging. The last thing we want to be doing is downloading "
slanderous" messages from each other. Also lets try our best to keep our
language clean ( well cleanish ), Its hard telling my young son what F**king
means or other sad "foul" words. ( I know keith supports me on this as well
as I hope you will too).

3) A light hearted Idea but a nice one anyway and this I owe to Shaun Green.
Yes If you are new why not introduce your self to the news group and tel us
a little about yourself and your X-COM Xcapades.

Well thats enough moaning from me and I'll look forward to the rest of your
comments soon.

Another excellent idea!

Fair enough. Let's try and keep to this...

This is a very important point - there are many newsgroups which do nothing more
than support flame wars. I have found flame-free newsgroups (alt.fan.dune, for
the most part, plus a few others) but some of them... <shudder>

Thank you! I'm glad to have sparked something off.

Agreed. I personally would like to see other people's feelings on the whole
issue of XCOM, its history and what MPS are doing with it.
I also find it quite interesting to see other people posting their
recollections of good and memorable games - i.e. 'the time we got waxed big
time, when we first encountered Bio-drones on that cargo ship terror
mission...'

Again, I agree, we only have to look to the strategic ng to see how things
can degenerate into mindless squabbling...

This sounds fair enough, I'd enjoy reading about other peoples adventures in
XCOM.

I'd also like people to get involved a bit more - I feel like I'm spending
far too much time talking to myself here :-)

OK, well it seems not many people are to concerned about what goes into the
newsgroup FAQ. The only people who did reply, agreed on the things
mentioned, so me and Keith are going to get together and start work on it .

PS: The FAQ sheet is not a tips doc, its just to welcome those who are new
to the group, to let them know what to expect from the group and what the
group expects from them. So if anyone would like anything to be added please
let us now.

Speaking of flamers, wouldn't they be nice to have in ufo/alien base
missions, so you can use them to seal off places you have been.....
