XCOM Interceptor 3DFX Question
#257

I've had some problems with the 3D Acceleration in Interceptor. For those of
you with a Monster3D, which of the following do you select in the Setup screen
for Interceptor?: (These are the three options I have available)

1. Primary Video Card-No 3D Acceleration

2. **Primary Display Driver-3D Enabled

3. 3DFX DirectX5 Driver

  I can select #1 and #3, but not #2 (I'm told that it's not a 3D device).

Basically, my question is this: Is #3 the choice to make if a 3DFX card is
installed? If so, what is #2 for?

And man, I've been around long enough to know that Microprose isn't nearly
what it used to be, but I thought they'd at least include some decent help
files. All I've been able to find (in the game files after installation and on
the CD) is a Readme. Am I missing something? I couldn't even find any info in
the manual that came with the game (on the display adapter issue). the
website's just as bad.

  Thanks for your help,

  Frank

John,

  I received a reply from Jef Reynders ( jef.re...@unicall.be ) to an
earlier post I'd made on the same subject. Here's his reply:

|> Hi, a few weeks ago, I had the same problem (same card too). You have to
|> download the latest Monster 3D drivers from the Diamond-website and install
|> them. After doing so, your card will show up. If you encounter any more
|> problems, just post them here and I'll help you.

Now, prior to his reply, I believe I'd been using the 3DFX drivers for the
Voodoo chipset. In the Interceptor Setup Screen only options 1 and 2 were
offered, and, as I mentioned in my original post, Interceptor wouldn't let me
select option 2.

I installed the Diamond drivers and, poof!, option 3 showed up, and it worked
fine. However, no change on option 2.

I suggest trying the different drivers. Juggle 3DFX's and Diamonds to see
which works best.

Usually, I prefer the Chipset makers drivers (for my STB Lightspeed 128 as
well as the Monster3D) they seem to be a bit more stable than the card maker's.
However, in this case, it looks like I'll have to go with the cardmaker's if I
want to play Interceptor with 3D Acceleration.

By the way, I'm using DirectX 6 as well.

  Good luck,

  Frank

P.S. Please let me know if you ever get option 2 to work.

Frank,
I have a Monster 3d and have the same problem. the game claims to
support Voodoo cards but I can only get option 1. I get the same response
as you on Option 2. I have Direct X 6 installed and
when I try Option 3 it says I need something called draw primitive. No help
from Microprose support. I think everyone has been eaten by Hasbro.
Hope someone out there can help
