Jagged Alliance 2: Will it Revitalize Turn Based Gaming?

Hi,

I've played the JA2 Demo through several times. It's an incredible game, a
combination of real time and turn based (turn based when enemies are spotted and
untill they're eliminated, real time otherwise). For those of you that haven't
played it, it's a big download, but more than worth the effort. I won't go into
details, there are plentynof rants about the game on the
ncomp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategy NG as well as numerous previews/reviews

I've never been as big a fan of JA as I have of XCom, although I''ve owned and
played both of the JA games (and now the demo). JA was great in many ways, but
the spooky alien sci-fi element of XCom really hooked me in a way that JA never
did.

I've been an XCom junkie since '95. I can remember many nights playing untill
dawn. As a matter of fact, I place it up there with Quake 2, Unreal, Total
Annihilation, Descent 2, and Fallout in terms of the quaility of the game within
it's genre.

However, I've begun to worry about that genre. Doesn' seem to be much out
there in the way of new Turn Based strategy games. Furthermore, Microprose has
moved XCom away from Turn Based, first with Apocalypse (Real Time option) then
in a big way with Interceptor and now Alliance.

My hope is that JA 2 will be such a hit that Microprose will take notice and
develop another turn based XCom of the quality that JA 2 appears to be.

You'd have to play the JA 2 Demo to understand just how great the graphics,
interface, and gameplay balance are. I know it's apples and oranges to some
extent, but, in many ways, JA 2's light years ahead of Apocalypse. It gives me
wood to imagine that a new XCom game could be created with the same qualities.

  We can only hope!
