Hi Sam,

Welcome to the group and I believe it's been around since the beginning of
September, from what I can gather.

Regarding what you've missed, we've been embarking on wishlists for XCOM6,
which initially was only a rumour, but developed into an announcement by
Dave Ellis on the 1st of October that a new XCOM game was being planned once
Alliance had been finalised. Shortly after that, on October 3rd, Julian
Gollop - Mr XCOM himself, posted to the group to add his thoughts. In the
space of three days, rumour and denial had become fact, and we had the main
forces behind the XCOM legend contributing - not bad considering before the
beginning of the month, another XCOM game was speculation and rumour.
Whether we had any influence in the new game remains to be seen, since
XCOManiacs website gave a transcript of a message from Dave Ellis to the
author of the site. Dave hinted at another title in the XCOM series being
submitted - which is how the group started it's wish list and so forth, and
the rest is history.

Some of the threads here a still pretty recent, so you can scan through to
find other interesting stuff, as well as checking dejanews for previous
messages - we've been busy, so you'll find plenty to keep you interested!

At the moment, we've been furiously adding our thoughts to what the next
game should have and what to avoid. Generally speaking, we're throwing the
idea's at Dave, who asked for contributions from the players, which is
probably swelling his email exponentially. The underlying request is an
improvement and update of the original, but which incorporates technological
advances and the benefits of three other squad based games which all had
their quirks and positive elements.

Julian Gollop also emailed me to say, amongst other things, there is some
possibility of making an XCOM type game next year, but didn't expand on the
issue. Since Mythos are currently working on Magic & Mayhem, plus VIE
having some internal problems of their own at present, this effectively
means such an idea will be looked into next year at the earliest. We can
only ponder on what Julian and his team can come up with, but I'm sure it
will be worthwhile.

HTH
