Patching Games in Xcom

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anybody out there has tried patching parts of TFTD into
UFO-Defense. For the most part, I like XCOM-Def much more - better aliens,
better weapons, etc. But I do like the variety of Terror Sites in TFTD, and
I love the Tasoth aliens.

I was thinking of copying all of the tasoth files (there are a couple, at
least two in the TFTD/UNITS directory) over to the /UNITS directory in
Xcom-def, and renaming them as sectoid. Since the program engines are
essentially the same, would tasoths show up in place of sectoids?

I'm also wondering about copying over some of the island and port terror site
files to Xcom, and replacing some of the "Urban" sites to give greater
variety. This I'm particularly tentative about, since both have Mathcad
animation files (for rendered water motion and such, I presume), which
XCOM-I is lacking. PLus, if I wanted to throw in a cruise liner or two, then
there would be the question of whether XCOM-I could support the two-part
mission.

Has anybody tried this already? Are these files compatible with each other?
Can anybody give me any insight into problems, challenges, or just plain
why it will/won't work? Thanks.
