UFO Aftermath

I recently started to play this game, and there are some things I
wonder about.

1. Where is the "difficulty level"? I can't find any setting for that.
(I'm playing on Windows XP.)
2. How on earth am I supposed to capture an alien (OK, a
"transgenetic") alive? Missions telling me to do so keep turning up,
but the only way I can win them is by default - killing all the aliens
without suffering any losses myself. Is there any special technology I
need to develop?
3. Biomass. How do I collect samples of it? I haven't had the
opportunity yet, but I have my suspicions that I need some special
technology for it

Grateful for any help.

O. Lang
