The difficulty bug in Xcom was you started the game at the selected 
difficulty, but once you saved and started from the saved game the 
difficulty defaulted back to novice/easy, regardless of the original 
dificulty.

I belive the patch did fix that, and Scott Jones edits also corrected that.
