As the newest member of the Invention Evaluation Board at work, I was copied on a note about a disturbing patent that was awarded to Microsoft on April 27th. Among other things, it appears to patent the use of double-clicking. I think that they got away with it because they limited it to a very specific environment. Even so, this would appear to be invalid because the idea is "obvious to anyone skilled in the art". That is the standard test used when evaluating the validity of an invention. The following URL takes you to the article on SlashDot which has a link to the patent itself. http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/04/06/02/2222258.shtml?tid=109&tid=155&tid=187 &tid=99 ------------------------------- Scott T Jones Author of XCOMUTIL (current version 9.42) Author of APOCUTIL (current version 1.00) ------------------------------- http://XcomUtil.ScottTJones.com
