Hiya everyone, I've been thinking a lot about XCommand lately... XCom has been kicked in the nuts a lot lately, and many times I've contemplated closing my site. However, I have a plan... [sounds of evil laughter heard emitting from the Git] Remember that Game Resources section of my site? The one which when done was going to be like a giant combined Ufopedia? And it turned out shite? And then it was deleted when Gamespy reverted to a site backup? (it's about 500 files, and 6 megs, it would take a VERY long time to reupload that, so screw that) I've got a brillo idea here. You know how some major search engine sites have category listings rather than actually search listings? Have you ever wanted to have an XCom site modelled similar to one of those listings, with information on all the items in every game, all the ufopedia articles, files, editors, etc... Basically a supersite divided into seperate sections for each game and the site itself divided into major sections...? I've already got a base site up and running, and I've been researching different types of CGI search engines I could implement. The idea, in theory, would absolutely rock. You would never have to ass around looking for something, you'd just have to goto the search engine, and search within the categories/sub-sections. It wouldn't take very long to convert the current site over - it's basically just a change of interface. Although this time, instead of the interface being eye candy, it's really an important part of the site. >From what I've seen of search engines on other sites (which are run off existing search engines which just search within the one site) I might not even have to do any CGI work. I'm writing this message because I need some feedback, ideas, comments, *********CONSTRUCTIVE********* criticism, and all the rest. Usually if I have an idea, I try to work on it, and *I* I don't like, and it gets canned. Most of the stuff I work (-ed?) on for XCommand never goes public. If you don't like the idea, please give me an idea why not rather than just saying it blows donkeys. And please try to suggest ways to make it good. If you like it, please give me reasons why and how it could be better. Anyhow, go nuts! Reply! Please. -Byron
