Prior to the release of the CE and Ex-com, combined sales for all games were
400,000 units.

Although X-COM has achieved 'cult' status, it's not done as well as later
games. You'd think Hasbro would get it's corporate head out of it's fucking
arse occasionally, would'nt you...? Speaking of arses, anyone know how well
Tom Dussenberry was recieved at GDC this week? Should see plenty of
journalists jerkin' themselves into a frenzy over this, one way or another
(boredom or hypesuckers).

No, the licence has been fucked over since... whenever. It's been
squandered, misunderstood and left to flounder. Maybe the CE, Ex-com and
Alliance will go some way to changing the situation, but out of the three,
I'd guess only Alliance has any chance of getting a cursory nod from gamers
as to the existence of X-COM anymore. Even so, Ex-com has done staggeringly
well in it's own niche market.
If you're trying for comparisons, take Westwood Studios and the Command
and Conquer games (Flogging a dead horse springs to mind here, but anyway),
which were followed up to and beyond the point of overkill. Take X-COM
however, and it's massive potential over C&C and what was done with it!?
Farq all.
End of rant - you know the rest...
Oh, the short answer to the second question is no, btw...
VC's !!!
