One aspect of the old titles that was missing was the sense of urgency. As an example, alien UFO's that crash land will of course send out a distress signal. There should be a time limit set before the alien rescue team arrives, which would possibly prove hazardous to the x-com operatives in the area (although some players might relish fighting against the odds). UFO's that have just landed will of course be able to take off, and the x-com team might only have a fixed number of turns to capture the UFO before the craft's propulsion system is readied for take-off (like in the UFO - Enemy Unknown intro animation). This time limit does not need to displayed, but messages and visual clues can be devised to warn the player as the time limit nears running out.
