I used to, but I only start again, when I finally set up my Dos computer,
since it's impossible to play under Windows

Nope, always when I try to install Privateer 2, I get the message: "This
programm can only run in a real Dos environment."

Nope. Privateer 2 should play quite fine in Windows. Privateer 1 is a
different beast.

Occastionally, yes. What problems do you have?

In what flavor of Windows are you trying to run P2?

If 9x/ME, create a shortcut to dark.exe, and set the shortcut
properties (I forget where exactly, offhand) to not detect DOS. Run
via the shortcut, and it should work.

NT/2K/etc is another kettle of fish, and one I can't really address,
not having any systems set up with an NTish version of Windows.

I use Win 2k, and as I said, I can't even install the game.

And it doesn't work under Virtual PC either. I have VPC on my comp, running
with Win98 and it doesn't work there or in the Dos Mode. When I try to start
setup, it always tells me I need a real Dos.

Let me give you a little backround first, I have both versions, Dos

scenes are so fast I don't have time or can keep up with trying to
destroy the pirates, is there any way to slow down the in space flight
and fight scenes to a more manageable speed other than going back to a
slower machine, I build my own by the way and I do have a few tricks I
can use on the motherboard but I'd rather not screw around with the
bus speed if I don't have to.

use slowdown. It's a prgramm, where you can artificially drop the CPU speed.
To reverse it, you have to restart the computer

Try this page:
http://www.wcnews.com/files.shtml#wcpriv2

Especially the "# Deluxe Edition Speed Fix - by Jonathan Scobbie, Details"

If that doesn't help try "Turbo [Mirror] (50k) - Slowdown Utility for
Windows". 1% slowdown should already be sufficient to get the built in
speed limiters back to work (you have some sort of hardware problem that
prevents the built in slowdown to work. P2 should slow itself down normally)
