Hi, I don'T know if this question was already mentioned here, I'm new. I'd like to know if there's a way to get Wing Commander to work under Win2k. When I start playing it, the Videos first run in fast forward and then they stand still. So, practically the game is unplayable that way for it's living from its videos :-/ Regards Glenn

Or you could try DOSBox, http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/ , which emulates the DOS enviroment WC3 was designed for far better than Windows own CMD emulator. However, last I checked WC3 was only "runnable", and not "playable". That may have changed Alternately, you can buy a copy of the Kilrathi Saga (if you can find it; try EBay), which includes Wing Commanders I, II and III updated for the Windows environment. Myself, I keep around an old Win9x box for games like these; if they don't run in Win95, I can still boot to plain-DOS (hey, the machine even has an ISA soundcard, it's that old!) Anyway, that's the order I'd try.

First port of call is lower your DX sound settings. If you dont know what Im talking about find 'dxdiag.exe' and click the 'sound' tab, then drag the slider down to "basic" acceleration. It usually works, so just try that before you start downloading all these other things. Ed

Try to run it in commpatibility mode like you would in XP I think should solve it. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q279792& describes how to get this mode in Win2k -- The following is a new Windows message that is under consideration for the planned Windows 2001: * This will end your Windows session. But it didn't work. :-( I still get the message VirtualProtect() failed, although I chnged the compalibility. Maybe next time I renew my comp, I should install Win XP
