Privateer 2: Looking for no-cd crack???

I'm replaying Privateer 2 (Deluxe Edition) and would like to load the whole thing on the harddrive. Can't find a cracked execute at the usual places (it's a pretty old game....and was never very popular). Repeated google searches have turned up nada. Does anyone know if one is available? Thanks for any info.

However, I don't know of any reason, offhand, that copying the discs over first, then installing from HD wouldn't work. Only way to be sure is to try. I'll try copying the CD's to the HD and then installing from there. My fear is that the game will still be looking for the CD's in my DVD drive, unless I edit some .cfg file....as in P1. If it works I'll let you know.

However when I try to install, it wants CD 1 and I have to alt-tab out to end the install program.

I just tried it with FakeCD, it works fine for one cd but not for all 3. Each CD has a file called "CD.DAT" which contains its cd # (1, 2, or 3). So even if you copy all the files to one directory, it still asks for the other cd's. Looks like it checks for this cd.dat file and not just for the needed files. In the "dark.cfg" file, the first line contains the drive letter of the installed CD-Rom drive. So I made a fake-cd drive for V, and changed this file. Still can't get around the multi cd issue.

An easier way (if you actually own the game and don't care that much about the movies) is to go to "the home of the underdogs" and download it (50 some megs)...

What if you put them in separate partitions (say: dark1, dark2, dark3), and then used FakeCD to point to "darkcd", and then, on the fly, renamed the directories? Not sure that would work in DOS - it would probably keep the file pointer the same as before.. Could you save your mission, do the renaming and then resume? Mattias

Something that might help:
Try to assign the second CD to drive letter W and the 3rd to X.
Some games just keep looking the following drive letters in case they
need a CD (I know that Diablo II and Freespace do). Maybe P2 will do
this (I don't really think, but worth trying, no...)
Except that you migth want to have a look at VirtuaCD which is Windows
based and has a lot of features (it isn't free however).

Have to reset the pc. Otherwise you can just change the mapping, reboot, then use the next cd that way.
