Is it actually possible to change key assignments for the joystick in WCP? I can't find anything in the interface to do it. I was hoping to assign the top switch to afterburners. I'm sure it's possible to assign the switches in WCIII. :-7 Rob

Get a programmable stick is all I can recommend. -- You need the power of a Pentium, 16 MB RAM and a 1 GB harddisk to use Win95. We needed the power of three C64s to get to the moon. Something is wrong with this world... [Delete the karl after the @ to avoid my spam trap]

I'm sure I programmed WCIII to fire missiles using the top button on the joystick. Unfortunately I can't check because the Kilrathi Saga version of WCIII bombs on this PC with an error to do with a glide dll. Presumably some call the game makes isn't compatible with the video card or DirectX later than DX 6. I could run it in software emulation mode but that looks awful. Hmmm.... enough for testing purposes I guess. > Get a programmable stick is all I can recommend. I guess I'll have to live with killing my keyboard's TAB key. :( Rob

Hmmm.... enough for testing purposes I guess. Software emulation mode? WC3? What are you talking about? WC3 is software, period. Re KS crashing: Do you use WinXP or Win2000? -- The following is a new Windows message that is under consideration for the planned Windows 2001: * COFFEE.SYS missing... Insert cup in cup holder and press any key. [Delete the karl after the @ to avoid my spam trap]

Have a look at the installer for Kilrathi Saga. There is a button which allows you to choose the "Video Card". One option it DirectX and the other is Software. > Re KS crashing: Do you use WinXP or Win2000? Not to run this. I have a PC which dual boots into Win98SE. When not playing incompatible games I use Win2K on a different partition. The Kilrathi Saga WCIII is unplayable on this machine unless I can find ways to get it to run smoothly and to calibrate the joystick. The joystick is calibrated in Windows but not in WCIII. The calibration feature in the game doesn't work. I could play it with the mouse and or keyboard but I'd rather use a joystick. The movies skip and stutter and have crackling audio regardless of the acceleration settings of the video card or audio card. Setting them both to no hardware acceleration helps buts doesn't eliminate the problem. At least WCP does run - although I was bloody annoyed when it dropped out a second before Blair's last tussle in the warp gate with an error that looks like a CD prefetch failed. Ah well. Have to play that last battle again... Rob PS You're right, neither WCP nor WCIII allow the user to set buttons on the joystick. Maybe I was remembering doing it in another game like Starlancer or Freespace 2. PPS Has anyone tried Freelancer?

Looks like it was the Prophecy/Secret Ops installers I was thinking of. I swear the DOS version of WCIII looked better than my current install of KS though. Rob
