Do the "Slowed Down" versions of WCI and WCII that occur naturally in the dense underbrush of Wing Commander: The Kilrathi Saga *actually* run bye todays standards (Win ME) and if so, do they run at 500% speed? -Lecckx

If you don't happen to have some hardware incompatibility that hinders
the slowdown mechanism to work (mostly soundcard related), then yes, KS
will run at about 100% speed.
Some problems with WinXP however.

I found both WC1 and WC2 runs at normal speed in WinXP on an overclocked P4-2.7ghz machine. The problem I ran into is when I installed the secret missions and special operations add-ons. They replace the exe, and although the game ran close to normal speed, I had sound/music issues. So for about $40, I got a p200 machine, now dedicated to my older dos games like Strike Commander and Privateer 1. Its also setup for dualboot with win98se, where I have Privateer 2 and WC1/WC2 running just great (even with my Cougar joystick/throttle)!! Wow; let me know if you see a machine perfect out there for such things ;) I'll keep my eye out on e-bay for somethung under $100. But, yeah, I'm not sure about that. The specs, I mean. I guess an old Sound Blaster 16 would be best for a machine set up all of the above, but wouldn't Privateer 2 lose something? Tough one. What're you using for Privateer II? I use an ancient AWE32. But a SB16 should do almost as well. Just make sure it is ISA and not PCI. -- Don't be irreplaceable; if you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.
