WC-Kilrathi Saga

Hi!
A couple of years ago, I bought a WC - Kilrathi Saga with WC 1, 2 and 3.
On the box is written that it was "modified for Windows 95"; "and the
gamespeed is also adjusted fr contemporary machines"; "For Pentium 60 or
better"
I have tried it on a 200 Mhz MMX with windows 95, 4 Mb graphic card and it
goes so fast! I am thinking of trying it on a 550 Mhz AMD K6-2, but I am not
sure if it's worth fhe bother!? And the Giga herz-machines, I can forget, I
suppose!
I remember liking the game, when I bought it, I also bought the IV and
WC-Prophecy later.
But I'd like to play from start, First WC 1 and so on!
Is there any fixes or patches to slow down the game a bit? Or are some parts
of the game meant to be very difficult?
Or is it just me getting to old for fast games :-) I'm 52 (-:

My system at home is a 1.67 Athlon running a Geforce4 TI in WinXP. I've
have the Kilrathi Saga as well and it seems to run just fine under this
setup. It doesn't exhibit the ruthless speed spikes of running the original
games running in a DOS environment. I do admit that it does "seem" faster
then when I played the originals back when they were released. But this is
probably because my computer back then was a little underpowered.

There are some freeware utilities out there that can help slow down your
computer so you can run older games. Two such programs are MoSlow and
Turbo. They both have your CPU crunch through formulas to eat up processor
time. They do a good job of slowing down your computer but they can cause
some instability problems.

Cheers
JB

The most likely reason for that is a conflict between the soundcard and
the speed limiter. Go into the DirectX controls and reduce the hardware
acceleration of your soundcard to none.

This is odd, it plays fine on my overclocked P4-2.7ghz machine in winXP.
Do all of them go fast, WC1-WC2-WC3, or is it only one or two of them?

You should also pick up WC4, as kilrathi saga includes a patch to make
wc4 run in windows.

What DirectX version are you running? I know I had problems with one of
them (can't remember), but no issues with DX8.1 and DX9.

No need to get KS for that patch. It is freely available.

Q: How many Gill Bateses does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None. Gill Bates will just redefine Darkness(TM) as the new industry
standard.

And in most cases, the original "DOS" version of WCIV runs just fine
from within Windows 9x anyway. The Windows patch does, however, provide
some enhanced features not available int he "DOS" version.
