NVidia Video Card Question

Hi all. I just purchased the Verto NVidia GeForce4 mx 420 PCI 64MB video
card. I got this instead of the Radeon 7500 64MB card, because one of the
salesmen said that the sdram in it would be more compatible with the sdram
in my 3 year old celeron than the ddram in the Radeon.

Anyone know of any NVidia GeForce4 problems with WCP, SO, UE P2, or any
other Wing Commander games? I really appreciate your input. Thanks. Mark.

no!? a bullshitting salesman, never!
don't know what his motivation was, or whether he believed it himself, but
(put simply) the only concerns that there should be with videocard ram is
that it should be well balanced performance-wise against the performance of
the gfx chip on that same card
nVidia famously screwed up once by combining expensive fast ram with a
weaker gfx chip; the gfx chip couldn't keep up and gained no real-world
performance over cheaper counterparts from their own and other gfx
manufacturers lines

I'm running a geForce 4 TI card and I haven't run into any problems running
Wing Commander games. If you are having difficulties, a good place to start
is updating your drivers from the nVidia website.

Secondly, you did get a little ripped off with your choice of cards. Don't
worry too much, it happens to everyone at least once. Next time it might be
worth checking some game review websites or something like cnet.com and
reading up on various video cards before you make a purchase. These reviews
can help compare one card to another, discuss the different features each
card advertises, and give you some prices so you can get a feel as to how
much they should cost.

Cheers
JB

Just a note to all those out there.

a GeForce 4 MX isn't a GeF4 part, it's a GeForce 2 part...

You should have gotten the Radeon. The salesman was an idiot.

Really? Which model was that?
