it's always a bad sign when the number of spams vastly overwhelms the paltry number of posts in a ng. Maybe you should jack this in, hardly any new people post now, the 1/2 dozen or so "regs" continue to be as appalling as normal to those who don't measure up to their shining standards. It's a shame; in the past when there were lots of people posting and not just C. Reid and associated friends/hangers-on etc, it could be interesting and entertaining. Mind you, in those days we all hoped for some more Wing Commander, but it never really happened and never will happen now. I just finished playing Starlancer which I must say I did enjoy as a challenge (even if I have had the game for over 18 months and never bothered with it until now) plus it looks good too and the East-West conflict is entertaining if a bit unrealistic now. Unfortunately it had nearly all the bad points of the Wing Commander series too (gosh there were some? I hear muttered) such as atrocious AI, too many VR cutscenes (but ok you can switch them off) lack of sufficient distiction in the performances and attributes of the various ships you can fly, their antiquated design (in SF game terms) and the aces aren't. Aces I mean. They're crap. Just like all those Kilrathi aces. Now I mus say that despite these criticisms I did genuinely enjoy Starlancer a lot but having finally played it out, I feel that it is too much like a re-hashed Wing Commander in the above respects (and of course you are once again a rookie pilot on a clapped out space carrier in a pseudo-WW2 in the Pacific scenario) yet not enough like Wing Commander in that you lack sufficient plot engagement and the characters are fairly meaningless and you don't really care about them. If you consider that Starlancer is contemporary with Freespace2 and how superior that is in every way, yet S'Lancer was made by the man (men) who in effect invented the space-sim genre, well it's not exactly sparkling, is it? Shame that. Maybe Freelancer will be better. I must stress however that I do like Starlancer and find it very enjoyable; it's just not top-notch material. No doubt Mr. Reid will regale us once again with a story of how Chris Robert's vision was once again diluted by anonymous executives etc, etc, and he left Digital Anvil because of artistic differences. Well, maybe. But ChrisRobert's doesn't seem to get on with anyone much these days, unless you can inform me differently, and maybe also he's run out of ideas and this one's run it's course? The Wing Commander film was a dead-duck after all, I'm a Wing Commander fan and I thought it stank. It had it's moments but really, it was pooh. I paid three quid to see it on pay-per-view as well. i could have had ten cigs and a Mars bar for that. So, maybe Wing Commander belongs in the land of Ebay now and we should let it go as a fond memory. As time goes on and it becomes increasingly unplayable on new operating systems even the "how can I get SO2 or Privateer to play on my Windows SuperXXXX 2005 system?" will dry up. I saw WC2 & SO pack on sale in new packaging (ok old packaging rehashed by EA) in a record/video/software bargain shop at an out-of-town place near where I work. In five months I think one copy has been sold and the rest are in the bargain basket. WC2... happy days. I had to nick 25 off my first wife to buy my first ever sound card in order to play it properly, way back in December '92, and I never paid her back! I did get a copy of Crusader: No Remorse, 'though, for 1-99, which is good 'cos I never got it when it first came out. It does sadden me to see the pitiful remnants of WC still being shoved out now and then by EA in a desperate attempt to squeeze a few more drops of blood out of the franchise. They should let it die a death, and so should we.

I should add, please don't mention the fan mods as I've tried most of them and wasn't very impressed, and I think you know my opinion on the fiction. One more thing. I got 130 for my Kilrathi Saga, which went towards a new DVD player for the kids. And my KS cost me nowt! So, thank you, Reidy, for telling me what to charge, you do have your uses even if you didn't mean to help me!

I don't, the only Wing Commander Titles that I ever enjoyed were Privateer and Privateer 2 (Which I have actually gone out and bought on EBay again). The regular Wing-Commander titles were 'ok' but the Star Wars games were far superior in almost every way. I wish they'd continued making the privateer line though, that was truly a fantastic game (the original) they went kinda the wrong direction with Privateer 2 though. It's still fun but the original was better. I keep hoping SOMEONE will come out with a new "Privateer" game but so far no such luck. Though EVE Online looks like it might be headed in the right direction. Anyway, I disagree that it's time to s-can the group, newsgroups aren't very well trafficked (sp?) anymore because most folks don't know how to use them these days ;) Mostly us older folks and most of us don't have time to surf through them anymore. :) TTFN! Well I am sure that you couldn't care less, but for all non trolls and WC fans you might want to try Unknown Enemy. http://unknownenemy.solsector.net/ -- I cannot help, but every time I hear "Win ME" I have got the picture of a masochist in my mind, yelling "Hit Me, Hit Me". Imagining how it would have been with freedom in you actions always makes me wish for a third part. Take a look at the advantages. There are enough trolls hanging arround in the usenet, so we don't need to get more from the web. But a few more Wing Commanderfans would be great of course. Btw. I love Wing Commander and Crussader, so I can only believe these series are dead if the last pc gets replaced by a console, may this day never come. It's not going anywhere. Tawawhatever just likes to pop up from time
to time with his "stick a fork in WC, it's done" troll, as if his
saying so has any actual effect on reality. (hint: it doesn't)

There are console WC games, you know, including (indirectly) the
upcoming WC Prophecy port... :)
("Indirectly" due to the upcoming adapter for the Game Cube that
allows it to play GBA games.)
Besides, the nonproduction of new WC games (which isn't even true,
now, with the upcoming release of Prophecy on GBA) hardly means the
game is dead. The games are still played, WC mods of other games are
being made by the fans of the series, and there's even a few out there
who are doing fan-made WC games from the ground up.
But then, like most trolls, Tawayawninducer doesn't let facts get in
the way of his trying to start up flamewars (and doesn't even do a
good job of that... proper flame-baiting doesn't involve drawing all
the fire upon the baiter).

Thank you, I am afraid the fear has influenced my sense of reality.

I have Wing Commander Secret Missions for SNES myself, so I wonder how I could forget this.
Maybe it's just because I cannot really imagine a good WC version on a
console.
