It would rule if you could play WC4 over a modem...... But alas,
it couldn't be done. It's too complex to play over a modem (way
to many bits of info would have to be sent back and forth). I'll
have to get Armada. Well, one can only dream....

~~~~ Hang in there till 2/9/95 everyone! It's only 37 days
away!!!!
Either that or maybe Origin could start some kind of Armada-like
Privateer server..  Something similar to Kali where everyone could
chat, but in a Wing Commander setting.  That way, we could join
whenever we wanted and leave whenever we wanted without disrupting
the gameplay.
Still dreamin,
That would be nice. Have an enourmous universe where a large number of
people can play at the same time...when you log in, you choose if you
want to go as a privateer type, a confed soldier/pilot, or maybe one of
the kilrathi (although for that, they would have to remedy some of the
fatal flaws in kilrathi ship design strategies :)).
Hell, I might even pay for that :)
Yeah, there're already text-based MUDs and BBS games like this, but
they feel kind of primitive... (Barren Realms, LORD, Usurper)
That's true. I'm not sure how many people would sign up to join
the ranks of Kilrah.  I don't know about anyone else, but I
would hate to pilot a Dralthi again (like in Secret Missions).
Stupid flying pancakes...
Yep, that's true.  I'd shell out mucho bucks to be able to
actually see, live, and breathe the Wing Commander universe.
And I'd also like to make a name for MYSELF someday..  not
just for Christopher Blair.  I'm quite sure that enough
people would want to enter the WC universe as pirates that
things wouldn't get dull...  Especially since they could
actually confer with one another and possibly plan coordinated
pirate assaults.
Anyway, it looks to me like a lot of people reading this newsgroup
have lots of good ideas, even though we're all basically dreaming
and we don't know how hard it is to program a network like that...
I wonder if anyone at Origin ever reads our posts?  Maybe we should
save all of these neato ideas into one large text file and send it
to Origin's E-mail address...
Steve,
That's some pretty good news about the server and all..  I mean,
28.8k modems are already becoming the standard.. Most computer users
in my area (Ohio) already have 28.8s.
About the more inexperienced pilots getting the snot kicked out of
them, that's just one more neat thing about the server!  I consider
myself a "good" pilot that could take a beating and give one out
as well..  See, the "good" pilots could take on the rookies as
wingmates and fly together until they're good enough to take off on
their own.  I'm sure that there'll always be a kind, experienced pilot
around to help any newbies off the ground.  I know I would be..
Happy kitty whackin'!
