No, and I have never heard of it before - I found it very interesting
to read about - because, somehow it should be possible to fix the
saving obtaining that velocity. I wonder - could it be the speed of a
missile (missile camera ON)? I share your opinion, that once the
thrusters were repaired, the speed slowed down to normal.

Actually you can start from the bottom in RF. You get a Tarsus
equipped with two mesonblasters and one missile launcher plus engine
and shield upgrade 1, plus jumpdrive. It has Hunter AW 6 scanner and
the Potter Quad map. You start with 10.000 credits.
You could also visit Roman Lynch at the minning base in the Pyrennes,
for the price of 200.000 credits he'll set your status to neutral to
every group except Retros and Kilrathi. But he'll do it for free if
you make an appointment with him in advance, and go and kill governor
Menesch.
Another way is to kill very many pirates and kilrathis making the
Confeds, Hunters, and Merchants friendly (But you may not kill any
single one from these groups in the meantime, no matter how hostile
towards you they are).
>Incidently, I've flown the few missions for Captain Goodin, ...
Yes, and what other missions did you fly? In RF you don't have to do
them in a certain sequence - that is: You meet Captain Goodin, and she
offers you work. You will also meet other providers, some you know
from Privateer and some you haven't met earlier. You are eager to come
down on the creep that stole your Steltek gun, but where do you start?
Well, when you wanted to learn about the artifact a couple of years
ago (Privateer) you went to Oxford where all the knowledge of the
Human Science is collected - maybe you should try that out - Talk to
your old friend Masterson.

Oh, but give it time, give it time. If you are doing your work as a
Privateer - flying missions for those who needs it, some of them might
have information that will put you on the trail. With so much money on
his head (the Confederation is not the only organization offering a
bounty), govenor Menesch has to keep a low profile - right?
>Also, is there information on the new items available for purchase in
>Righteous Fire? i.e. Fusion Cannon, Gun Cooler, Shield Regenerator, etc.
All right:
Fusion guns are the best, followed by Tachyon guns. The reason are the
damage they inflict seen in proportion to the time it takes them to
recharge, and the amount of energy they use.
Gun cooler: Equiped with this commodity the guns recharges faster and
use less energy.
Shield Regenerator: The shield regenerates faster.
The other commodities you didn't list makes your ships max velocity
faster, enhance your thrust (=increasing acceleration). Adv. Droid
repairs your ship faster, and isometal is a better armour.
And you'll need it all, pall !!!
If you want to cheat in Privateer, the only commodities your can use
without the system occasionally crashing, is:
Engine and shield upgrade 4, adv. repair droid, and isometal armour -
considering the latter: It cannnot be repaired in Privateer, and it
doesn't show in the repair and/or sell mode at the Shipdealer.
Furthermore, if your ship takes so much damage that you actually
survive due to the isometal armour, you are probably not able to
continue anyway, or the expenses repairing the ship exceed the trouble
doing over the mission once more. The cheat is done by manually
altering the Privateer savefile extension from name.SAV to name.PRS.
Loading the saving in RF, buying the commodities, saving, and manually
altering the savefiles extension back to .SAV.
Easier though is to download PREDIT.EXE from:
The Terran Confederation Underground,
brought to us by Patrick "Hedgehog" Bryant.

I did cheat the first time I played Privateer, but it's much more
challenging not to cheat, so on later trials I didn't.
I have done Privateer three times and Righteous Fire twice - I am
really looking forward to Privateer 2.
OK, that's all for know - enjoy the game.
