I don't know what other people think about this but I found that in Centurians with shield generator 3 (or 4 in Rightous Fire) the best tactic against most enemies (especially talons) was to ram them. On the mission in question you can ram the retros and kill them quicker than is possible with guns. Sometimes you have to revert to guns when your shields are low, but they recharge pretty fast.
