As a very new player (i.e., game purchased two weeks ago and I'm still
being killed routinely on rookie level), I think the targeting system
on WC3 is very good. Having to lead the target makes it a bit more
realistic, IMHO. Just placing the gunsight over a ship and blasting
away gets a bit boring after awhile.

If I may make one small suggestion, perhaps there could be a way to
let smart targeting be used as a cross-mission setting, rather than
having to be reset each time. After I (very rarely) destroy the enemy
crafts, I've inadvertently fired off a couple of missiles at the
Victory, since it was then the subject of the lock-on.

There is one gameplay suggestion that may be a useful feature,
although it may chew up a lot of resources. One of my favourite parts
of the game is watching a missile target, chase and blow up an enemy
fighter craft. While the missile view is very helpful, it also takes
up the full screen, which can be a bit of a problem when more than one
enemy is involved in the dogfight. Furthermore, if the missile misses
or self-destructs, the screen doesn't appear to automatically switch
back to the cockpit view (i.e., the player has to press F1).

Therefore, would it be worth considering placing the missile view in a
small window on the screen? This would allow a player to watch the
missile chase and destroy the enemy with his or her peripheral vision,
while continuing to manoeuvre to target another enemy ship.

Granted, this option may be resource-intensive. However, those
players with larger monitors and/or powerful processors (with cycles
to spare) may find the option quite entertaining.
