It's a desktop PC with a Gigabyte motherboard that has standard IDE interfaces, plus a Promise RAID controller, plus memory stick, smartcard, who knows what else, and the PCI SCSI card also appears to have claimed a lot of the upper memory. > Maybe you can disable some stuff in the BIOS? No, there's no settings to determine which memory the I/O devices use, and I do need the SCSI and RAID controllers. So I don't think there's anything I can actually disable without unplugging my scanner and my RAID stack. Thanks for the suggestions. Someone else suggested getting an old machine and using that - I have an older PC at a friend's place, and at this point I think it would be easier to get it to work than to battle with trying to run a DOS game on the PIV I'm using now! The point which made me decide this direction was that the onboard soundcard probably wouldn't work in DOS. Rob
