Back for Patch 6

So , back for a while before the patch.

The patch kicked in last night, no warning it just took off.
With the new battlenet loader I got updated last week the background
defaults had reset to p2p.
Response just crashed as it ate bandwidth, 9.9G to download although
people with the beta invites would have it already.

Watch that if you have to manage a quota.

Once options were set the downloader would not reset. A couple of
process halts later it started behaving and pausing during game run and
can be manually paused on the battlenet screen if you need to manage
quota, but the default seems to be to eat it at max bandwidth.
Maybe that was just whatever bug caused it to misbehave at first.
Download rate can be limited in settings, scroll down to the bottom of
the game install/update page.

The loader now complains about the graphics even though it is quite a
few notches above the requirements, less than a year old PC.
Microsoft also complains, it keeps trying to add the same updates and
is a noted error on their support pages. I find running a single monitor
stops it, that is not an option :-)

I got a Sky Golem, the best thing I can say is from the forums
'sky golem=nice ground mount' blech, I can't play pandas because of the
yompityyompity, and golem weaving is worse. I was going to build one
with a month of daily prof mats, but 6k on the AH? no question.
6k is about the ah price of the 30 living steel, let alone the 600
ghost iron , smelting, remembering to do the daily....

  http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/11041994377
sooooo glad I bought it, crafting it myself would have been disappointing.
What was I thinking? I forgot that 98.44726%+-127%% of engineering is
guano.
i.e. it may be quite good for you, but -usually- as useful as getting
dove-bombed

Prices are pretty much random for mats and some items, people clearing
out bankers and happy to get 1/3 price or less. Or people rounding out
characters and willing to pay over the odds for short supply items to
get it done today.
The AH is about 50% more items since it is joined realms, or maybe that
is just returning players.
A lot of bots....a LOT of bots, which could explain the dumping and
weird prices.

Yay, it's been too quiet round here, think almost everyone's been on a
break :-)

Nah, we all have to download it, beta installs to a different folder
(in my case not even on the same drive for space reasons), and while I
could probably copy+paste stuff, they've changed the format of all the
files with this patch, so best to leave well alone and let it sort
itself out.

Btw the install is significantly bigger than before, my live install
is 27GB while my beta install is 48GB! System requirements says 35GB,
so I guess they'll compact the beta size down a bit but yeah, if
anyone's tight on drive space, be warned. Thankfully I'm not that low
on space on my SSD, it just wasn't big enough for 75GB of WoW across 2
installs!

Hehe nice getting that, I still don't have one! Haven't really played
much in a while, moved house a couple of weeks back and that's taken
up all my time over the last month, mainly just playing D3 when I have
some free time, slaughtering tons of demons is quite good for reducing
stress levels!

Haven't noticed prices much different to normal, but I'm expecting
them to start dropping soon... with a small bump for gems when 6.0
hits as all the people who didn't have the cloak go and do Ordos and
get new stuff with sockets ;-) I'll have to start running stocks down
I guess, still well over a month till WoD itself though. One bonus is
I'm assuming 6.0 is when server-wide AH hits, and finally my alliance
alts will be able to actually sell stuff - my JC over there sells 3-4
gems per listings batch max (and I have most recipes now), my Horde JC
sells 20-30 a go. Granted, at lower prices, but still, Horde is tons
more profitable. It should even out a lot and make Alliance much less
annoying for trading once we all use the same AH.

Currently needing to find some time to play WoW more, got a bunch of
acheivements I should try and clear up before WoD, plus several
characters to level up for crafting purposes (garrison profession
buildings help, but I'll still do better with my army of alts actually
ready to get to the garrison themselves!), also want to finish
levelling my draenei priest, since I've been playing (a template
version of) her on beta, really want a draenei alt for this expansion
given the draenei storyline stuff! Lvl 88 now, want to push to 89
before Brewfest ends so I can get a trinket, seeing as Timeless one is
unique and I doubt I can be bothered farming 50k coins for the 535
Timeless one...

Also got my rogue parked outside Sethekk Halls working on Anzu, was
intending to farm several different mounts daily using different alts,
but didn't get that far yet... and rogue is the best for dungeon
farming since he can skip all the trash with stealth, takes me about
2.5 minutes from entering to leaving :-P

The patch has not dropped yet. Still 5.4.8.

Beta doesn't count.

I was just checking on Undermine for mats and wondering whether to
bother and there it was,AH!!,AH!! NOW and a couple of cheap rascalbots
and some pierres. No point crafting them now.

Not much point getting a golem now if it takes any effort , unless
you plan to herb while flying much later in WoD
My main herber is a druid anyway, flightform.
That plus they are just very VERY annoying.

Undermine has changed servers and lost most of their data but the new
format and data is pretty good, the old data is mostly irrelevant during
this period anyway.

Yeah, I am just levelling a new mage to 60 for prof slots.
With merged realms I have another 10 slots for bankers on the other
realm which helps my style. I just mail everything non-junk from the
mage levelling to the new banker and will clean it all up and
distribute/sell later.
Levelling is such fun I fell asleep at a quest giver when I just shut
my eyes to think where to go to next and whether I should just push on
or do a few more at the current hub.
The only really tempting thing about a new character is that I
remembered how much I hate instances and hate pvp and with 90 promotion
I don't have to do most of the levelling....why was I playing again??

I just like endlessly organising icons and little 5 second plans of
action working , the seconds are good but the big picture hours and days
plans don't really interest me, they are more like work.
I play much like a kitten, done that twice, nap time :-)
The AH fascinates me endlessly with constant changes and calculations
5k gold is only about 4 times more important than 5 silver in the fun
spectrum.

Of course if it is a bit sparkly I could do the same thing 10,000
times in a row, so I can grind like a monkeykitten IF it has little
jolts of fun.

I meant the patch downloader

I let it go this morning, apart from WoW it killed video-on-demand and
other use
10.6G plus some yesterday
9.02 GB (9,692,993,548 bytes) in the directory, maybe some more elsewhere
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/16043924/warlords-of-draenor-patch-602-background-download-begins-9-23-2014
http://wow.joystiq.com/2014/09/23/patch-6-0-2-background-downloader/
Yesterday evening the background downloader for patch 6.0.2 became
active, serving up around 15GB of patch data. Shortly after the
downloader became active Blizzard pulled it offline. Zarhym explains:

but not installed so still shows
V 5.4.8.18414

I mainly wanted to mention there can be some problems with it.
It kicked off while I was ingame at max bandwidth, suddenly massive lag,
25 second lag, and it refused to stop or slow down and even continued in
background when the entire game and blizzard loader was exited, blizzard
updater task was separate.

A bug and I may be the only person in the universe it happened to.
It could destroy a persons monthly quota, or it could put them into
overquota charges if not capped.

Check settings, check it behaves.

Heh, I may check my own server then, will see how cheap it is - stuff
like that I usually enjoy making myself for the fun of gathering the
mats, but my engi isn't even in Pandaria yet, so it'll be a long time
till I get that far!

Yeah my herber is a druid too, and I'm not a huge fan of the model,
it'd just be one to add to the collection for completism rather than a
mount I specifically want (unlike the JC gem panthers, which I really
did want and spent a lot of gold on crafting right at the start of MoP
:-))

Lol, lucky - I do wish they'd note the imbalance and allow more slots
per server now, bit unfair that people on multi-connected realms can
have their entire 50 characters on "one" server, while people on high
pop realms are restricted to 11. I have 22 on my main server (2
accounts) and it's still not enough really, I'm just very glad there's
no new race/class this expansion as I don't want to have to decide
what to delete...

Lol :-P I love levelling at early levels, tend to get stuck when it
all slows down though, got 4 characters stuck at lvl 85...

I think it's one of the best bits of WoW that there's so many
different things people can enjoy, something for everyone really! I
enjoy selling stuff on the AH but have never got serious about trading
stuff, too much like hard work, I just craft and list and let it work
itself out without learning much about markets other than what I
notice through observation!

Made it to 89 tonight, got trinket after 7 runs, phew! Would've been
3rd run but the feral druid decided he needed the healer trinket, sigh
(to be fair, I was going to go for the dps caster trinket if it
dropped, as it's more use to a disc priest, but after 7 runs, screw
it, the healer one will do, I'm bored of that fight now ;-))

Haven't done Kun'Lai in ages, had forgotten just how much story and
questlines there are there; I've only done Jade Forest and Kun'Lai on
this character, haven't even finished Kun'Lai and I'm 89, nice! Pretty
cool zone, nice to do one I've not done much before, don't think I've
done it since my main ran through at the start of MoP, usually I just
open the gate to the Vale and leave it there.

Almost a month later... got it! 49th attempt according to Rarity :-D
Now to pick another easily stealthable dungeon to park him outside
lol, that human male model is so hideous I really don't want to use
him for anything that takes more about about 2-3 mins per day :-P

Ouch, bet that took some patience, only way I got to that many
attempts was leaving the character outside the dungeon for 2 months
and just not moving him anywhere :-)

Love the looks of this mount, will be interesting to see which I
prefer of this and the high res version from the collectors edition,
which I should be getting soon (handy thing with release being between
my birthday and christmas, it's an easy present for my bf to get me!)
- based on the ones I see running around with other players, I reckon
I prefer the old one. Can't wait for the baby one as a pet anyway,
that'll be very cute!

Wonder if Anzu will react at all when I come running up to him on it
in WoD lol, he's a friendly questgiver in one of the zones... it felt
very weird accepting quests from him on beta, while knowing I was
killing him daily on live :-P

I do that outside Tempest Keep. Tomorrow I will farm Kael again on 5
chars, leave the chars there and do it all over again wednesday. And
then I can wait almost 2 weeks for the next time.
I have 8 90es, but only 5 (mage, lock, shammy, monk and druid) of them
can use the legendary staff that drops inside which partially buffs you
against stun, fear etc.. Doing that part on any other char is a hell.

Wow, I'm impressed, I got bored of running TK after I finally got the
last pet I wanted in there, too much hassle! May park a few characters
outside it sometime, but got so many mounts/pets that I want... my
rogue has now moved outside Magister's Terrace, that looks the next
simplest run, have to actually bother killing all the bosses in this
one rather than walk past them, but otherwise, once a day, hopefully
be a bit faster than the weekly bosses! I love stealth for these runs
:-)

You dont have to kill any other bosses before you fight Kael'Thas. Just
run straight to him and kill the trash on your way. :)

True but I used to find him a pain to kill anyway, hopefully the buffs
with the patch mean higher dps makes it a lot less annoying!

I doubt. The fight is higly based on mechanics. Once you have picked
up the staff, buffed yourself and the 4 mobs gets alive again at least
one of them will stun or fear you asap. You cant avoid that CC on you
no matter high your damage is.
The best class for this fight is a shaman with a fire totem as the totem
will kill them one by one while you cant control your char.
The boss himself goes air around 1-1.5m hp (dunno his new healthpool
atm). I have managed nuking Kael'Thas to exactly 1 hp, but he couldnt
die as he have to enter the air phase. And that phase is unavoidable.
/yawn :(

Yes, but if you do high enough dmg to actually kill the mob with the
first couple of casts (preferably instant or dot), you get cc'd a
whole lot less ;-) I never did that on any alt before the patch, maybe
it'll be better now!

Hmm, I like that idea! Ok, shaman it might well be for farming that
:-)

I did this a year or two ago, using a fairly complex strateby
which involved spreading out the first kills of the 4 mobs
throughout the route to the external door, so that they arrived
some time apart after they resurrected. This allowed me to face
them one by one; killing the caster first was a very high priority, as
was moving them into the corridors where their pushbacks were less of
a problem.

I never bothered with the legendaries.

The strategy can be found in wowhead.

It sometimes happens that I dont get CC'ed at all when the 4 mobs gets
alive again. Its not often though.

+ a dot when you get the chance. :)

I'm looking forward for testing my mage's changed Nether Tempest
tomorrow as a single NT now spreads dout damage to all mobs within 10
yards. So no more multi-dotting. :)

Thorim and last 2 bosses in Ulduar should also be soloable now if you
want the achs there too. I'm thinking about the achs ofc. Thorim *was*
soloable before v6, but it was a tricky fight as you had to "cheat" the
boss fight mechanics in the tunnel.
A guildie soloed all wrath raids on 25hc on his DK the other day and got
all achs and mounts. So the stats squish has made some impact there too.

Hah, that sounds fun! :-)

Yep, my bf and I just ran through Ulduar 25 (having previously managed
most 10-man achievements, with considerable effort, most bosses were
ok but we hate Yogg-Saron bigtime, especially having done him with
only one keeper up), didn't try for achievements but got a lot without
trying, most fights were easy enough that I should be able to solo
them fine if I want to. Got 3 fragments of Val'anyr too, given that
I'm also in progress on the Tarecgosa's Rest questline, I wonder which
I'll get first! Gives me plenty to work on now that 25 is possible,
can also start my DK off on the Shadowmourne chain :-)

I just did Kael on my mage. Trash is easier than before. The
mini-bosses at Kael recieves more damage than before and they go down
faster. But they still CC you despite you should be immune to CC. Kael
is also a walk in the park. But overall its the same as before. the
fight is just a little faster now. Not much though due to all the
blahblahblah and phases... /sleep

But I saw that my Nether Tempest dot didnt do much damage at all while
my instant arcane barrage almost oneshotted the mini-bosses. So there
is still room for more fine-tuning of the stats squish which I expect
Blizzard is aware of. :)
