Has anyone else been getting this warning message lately?

Better not, they are brand freakin new :-)

Does it say what it finds a problem?

A few strings match but it looks like they are shifting the graphics up
as -always- rather than using OS specific services.
If thats the case it is a generic warning about too old. Wow is cross
platform so OS changes usually don't do much.
Graphics drivers and minimum res are always a significant drag on
rendering options.
Not supported doesn't necessarily mean it will break, if it says system
then that seems like the whole system, is it a mac or windows?

From reading around it seems probably the 3D rending in the video card.

I posted a short thread on budget pcs last oct-nov on the 4600 series
with inbuilt graphics. You can spend a lot ($2500) or for $800 each you
can get 3 very playable systems. ( depending how low your standards are :-)

Just get a upper quality 500W+ ($80-120) power supply not a $20 generic
so you can add a proper graphics card if you find you need it. The
generic power may say 500W but thats usually well into inefficient=heat.

They can run wow out in the world fine at 30 fps at high settings, 80
+fps tweaking the eyecandy you barely notice down to good.
A bit short for raids and really demanding games. Short meaning lower
fps in parts. So the choice is then how many hundred $ to spend on a card.

Hi, I'm running WindowsXP. The computer is about 10 years old with an
AthlonXP CPU. My graphics card is a bit more up to date, Radeon 3600 HD.

That's warning message I get, but it doesn't tell me specifically what part
will be causing the problem. I know it's an out of date system but it was
good to still be able to play WoW on it. I don't think it could be upgraded
any further.

I guess you have to accept that XP is a bit outdated.

You have a nearly 7 year old graphics card being run on a 13 year old
OS. How long did you think they would continue to support either one?
Your graphics card in particular (I could not find any reference to a
3600, only 3650, so using that) has 20% of the texture fill rate, 20% of
the pixel fill rate and 25% FLOPS speed of the GT640, a card you can buy
all day long on Ebay for $60 new or ~$40 used... and it is quieter and
draws less power.

Time to stop cheaping out. You want to play, eventually you have to pay.

Didn't notice before, but just saw you are running an Athlon XP. This
means you are running on an AGP card at best, which is even MORE outdated.

You have a better chance of playing Draenor on your phone then on that
system.

Im worried about my fairly new laptop's nvidia M540 video card with the
next expansion in mind as Blizzard will update the graphics engine to
something like yesterday's standards. So far I havent got any warnings.
10N is playable despite a few, but luckily very short FPS spikes in boss
fights now and then. So I have dusted off my 4 year old my old I7
stationary with a 560gtx card. My guild is going 25HC as soon as our
progress raid team has tampered life out of Garrosh. My laptop goes
more or less nuts anyway when I do 25LFR/flex.

Benchmark/review:

The 540M is just below the Radeon 7650M in performance, being only about
6% below it, and about 20% below the GTX 580M SLI. That should still be
playable, I would guess. That link has enough comparisons and
benchmarks to keep you busy for hours.

For reference, I still play on on GTX560 card myself and have minimal to
no problems. Of course, this is also with an i5-3570k 16GB ram and a
64GB msata cache on the motherboard.

540M hits ~700 in passmark while my 560ti hits ~3700. The difference is
noticable. :)

Yeah I still kept an Athlon, as a server for printers etc, it does
internet just fine and nice to have a completely seperate box but it is
crucifed by the latest changes to youtube and flash.
A perfectly good machine made redundant by slack bloated code.
The only reason it is even worth the power draw is as a reference for
old software.
Not that the new machines are ever off but 16seconds boot is also nice.

It would be the graphics tripping it, the supported site
https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/world-of-warcraft-system-requirements
still says xp, it is always the graphics, probably the 3D rendering and
shading support.
Unfortunately your machine has old expansion slots, you will have
trouble getting anything better unless maybe you find some topend for
the time secondhand. And they would be outdated next year, or the year
after.

Put it this way, apart from the support for shaders and 3d the cpu and
card benchmarks
  Athlon Xp 2000+   ->322 Single core 1.6G
  Radeon 3600       ->120

for $800 for the complete box, 8G ram, sata3, usb 3
  Intel I5-4670 7,500 4 core 3.4G ( and lots of wider,fast hardware
supporting it, higher clocked wider memory, SATA 3 SSD )
Integrated Graphics HD 4600 -> 600 ('free' with cpu)
  GTX 660  -> 4000

And the benchmarks don't even really scale.
Wow only uses about half a core , maxes the builtin GPU, but they all
do, otherwise why haveit? :-) but it gives 60fps on mostly high quality
settings 1920x1080 in stormwind.

The numbers are rubbery but new computers are 20-30 times more
timewasting bytes shifted per second, 8x more eyecandy rendered, or 30x
with a medium card
and costs about 1/2 what yours cost new. 20-60 times more bling per buck.

They -have- given you a lot of warning instead of falling over once the
xpac patch goes in. Even then you could maybe wait and see if it still
works, but definitely on borrowed time.

It is a pain to change but it is getting cheaper to upgrade, if you wait
until just before expansion , or after , they will be faster and cheaper
next year.

Maybe in a another decade or two they will work like fridges and be
expandable just by buying more bricks. Until then this is the best our
best minds ,40 years and a few thousand billion $ can achieve.

Not very impressive, but then I have to recall that I really do very
very little with it anyway, clicking virtual buttons to get bling.
