Hearthstone public beta

Is anyone playing this?

I'm giving it a go and throughly enjoying it so far.
In case you don't know what it is, it is a tactical card game based on
WoW lore.

Seems reasonable well balanced and there are a lot of deeper tactics in
play once you start getting into it.

Yep, I got into the closed beta a while back, been having a lot of fun
:-) I'm still not very good at it, but I can win a fair number of
games anyway, and really enjoy trying to come up with tactics - often
doesn't work out but it's the kind of game where it doesn't really
matter what level you're at since in theory you get matched with
people around your own level. That doesn't always work out so well,
but most of the time it feels fairly balanced, at least if I'm playing
a class I'm not too bad at!

Love how polished the game feels, all the animations, and little
details in the game boards, for a game that could have been done
really simply, you can tell they put a lot of time and effort into
making it jst right. Ok, still a few bugs to be solved, but overall,
it's really good - although I have to say I spend far too much time
playing with the board, firing catapults and seeing what noise comes
after is funny (love hitting a murloc lol :-P), or tormenting the poor
gryphon by clicking on it ;-)

The interactive boards are great, and the game as a whole is giving my
my WoW fix now I no longer play :)

I did struggle to start with, and I picked a mage class to play first
off, which turns out is probably the worst basic card set after it got
nerfed recently, so lost pretty much all the time. Switching to other
sets saw me win 8 games on the trot. Yet last night I won one game out
of 6. It does have a lot of luck involved, but there are tactics you
can use to push that luck to your favour.

I played mage first too and still find it the best class for me,
perhaps because I didn't overuse the freezes which were what was
nerfed, I could adapt easily (didn't even have half the cards that
were nerfed!). Doesn't always work well, but I love the control I can
have as a mage, plenty of aoe, sheep, a bit of freezing, couple of
neutral silence minions, and I can control the baord fairly well,
given luck with my cards (without that luck, I lose badly though :-))

I really like playing Arena games as I know my opponent likely won't
have that perfect set of cards which tends to obliterate me in regular
play; the playing around with random cards is pretty fun, seeing what
I can do with a non-ideal collection. I don't do brilliantly, but
usually range between 2-5 wins before I get knocked out, not too bad I
guess!

Loving Hearthstone at the moment..I have been watching Trump videos on
YouTube for a little while and that fella makes it look so simple. I have
only just run through the practice games at the moment but I already know
I'm going to struggle against real players..haha.

I just started playing this weekend, and I'm enjoying it.

Has Blizzard said what will happen to player status once the game leaves
beta?. I.e. will we have to start over from scratch unlocking all the
classes, rebuilding card collections, etc?

At present they're saying it'll stay the same, ie all your current
cards remain as they are etc. At least, that's the last I heard!

I've gotten into the closed beta a while ago. I've played it for a while,
finding it well made and fun to play. I probably managed to win about 2
games in 5 with some luck. I've unlocked all classes but not levelled all of
them to level 10 yet. It held quite a lot of attraction at first, but I
haven't played it in a month or so and doubt that I'll go back for it
regularly, but can certainly see myself occasionally playing a little
(though the more head start others have, the worse your chances will likely
be except for arena mode).

Cheers
Urbin

In theory, that last point shouldn't matter, as you get placed against
people of your ability... in theory, at least. In reality the
matchmaking isn't always that accurate, but it's not too bad anyway; I
play quite a bit and never get put against people with tons of
high-end cards (my set is very middling; a few lucky finds but mainly
the cheaper ones), nor against total beginners, so it seems reasonable
that way. The first few days of a new season if you play ranked, you
can get put up against high end people, as ranking resets and
everyone's at the bottom again, but it usually doesn't take long to
sort itself out thankfully!

I don't play all the time but usually give it a go a couple of times a
week, mainly just do the dailies every few days to pick up enough
coins for arena, which is my favourite type of play at present.
Someday I should make an effort in ranked mode and see how high I can
get, best so far is rank 18, but it's not like I really tried...
should be able to make rank 15 or so, I'd guess, unlikely to go much
higher though, I'm just not that good!
