Horde/Alliance differences in Siege

I've done all of Siege of Orgrimmar on a horde toon.  Recently I did the
Underhold wing on an Alliance toon and I was surprised by gnomes showing up
and destroying/icetrapping some of the trash mobs.

It's a minor thing, but it made me wonder.  Why does Alliance get to skip
those mobs?  Are there other mobs that Alliance has to fight but Horde gets
to skip?
