Oondasta bites the dust!

Today I came online to do some instances on my warrior and I noticed in
guild chat LFM oondasta. I heard about it in the patch notes but I never
investigated more on the subject. Seems in the last patch they added a new
island (I missed that) directly north of the shrine of the seven stars.

We had 2 full raid groups of 40 people and it was barely enough to kill it.
We managed only on our 5th try after we pulled the boss by the sea and close
to the GY.
The boss is really hard and most of his abilities 1 shot people. I dont
think there is a way for someone to survive the whole fight. I died like 5
times each try.
I must say this was the most epic experience I've had in wow in a long time
:) and I even got a ilvl 522 ring in the end :)

I uploaded 4 screenshots I took during and after the fight, check out the
field of corpses after it was over :D

http://postimage.org/gallery/vf26ccy/b784944c/

Check out the screenshot with the boss on 0.5%... that was a wipe, at that
point everyone died so many times that 80 people were dead with a 2 min ress
timer and the boss resetted.

I've done it too with a pug, 3 full groups of 40 and ours of 30. Baldy
coordinated and we died 2x. The loot was 38 gold or something, but cool
to have done it. gz with your price.

3 times so far on my realm. Everytime we did it with 4 full raids and
some experienced raid leaders. Yesterday most raids were of us stayed
alive to 30%. Tank healers oom'ed and a tank lost his grip on Oondasta
so he started walking around and most ppl got caught in his cone, were
too close to other players etc.. We're improving. I personally did 6
corpse run at the last 30% until he died. :) In a few weeks a single
medio-experienced raid should down him without too many probs.

Congrats to all of you. I was on my first run at this one last night;
two full raids, and we were wiping repeatedly until I had to leave for
RL issues.

I was in a crossrealm raid the second time and a lot of strange things
happened before the fight. Other raids and Oondasta disappeared from
the screen several times for like 20-30 seconds.
We discussed it in the raid and we came to that conclusion that Oondasta
spawned on our (my) realm, but there were too many ppl from other realms
in our raid and _that_ was the problem. Im not sure what it ended up
with. But I guess some from the other realms left so we ended up with a
majority of ppl from my realm.

But... Its just a pure guess.

Cool - Thanks for the info & Gratz...

Haven't tried him yet, but some in the guild have and they all said he
was tough, but fun. The guild put together a run for next Saturday
night to try and see if we can get enough members running it for a guild
achieve.

I did manage to get exalted with both the BP and Kirin Tor on my main,
and bought my Triceratops mount. I also managed to get my main alt
heals close as well, and get her through healing the first raid. Was
light years better than the first night it was open and I ran it my main...

I ended up burned out a bit and since both toons were maxed, and I
didn't feel like leveling my alt last night, I felt I needed a change
of pace and logged a bit early, and played one of my daughter's games.
I found a empty save slot on her Skylanders game and started playing
about 45 minutes worth...nice simple fun and actually had a blast. Also
started getting into watching "The Walking Dead" series over the
weekend, which I hadn't seen any of....Really, really cool show, but
wife won't watch it with me.... Already into season 2....lol

Unless your guild can get together 80 people with good gear and even better
tanks (we had tanks from the best guild on the server with around 600k hp)
then forget it.
Galleon has over 800 mil. hp

Did she try watching it? My wife hates zombies and zombie movies but after
she watched the first 2 episodes of the walking dead she watched the whole
thing and cant wait for the next episode :)

Galleon or Oondasta? Anyway, while you may be right on the as far as
the amount of players needed to down him, Bliz may require only a
certain amount for the achieve. I don't know what the minimum is, but
many of their achieves only require a certain amount of players from the
guild to count. An example being on a 10 man, that 8 be from the guild,
on a 5 man I think it's 4. Forget what the 25 man is... I honestly
don't know what Oondasta is, but only that it's on the calandar for next
Sat.... :)

She stopped and watched a minute intrigued by the drama part, asked what
it was and before I could start explaining, the part where the walkers
shuffle into the camp at the quarry camp, attack Carol's husband in the
tent and eat into Amy as she's coming out of the RV from going
"bio"...pick axes to heads...zombie heads exploding......last I saw was
a trail of smoke heading towards the stairs with her book saying
something about bad dreams and "I'll take your word for it" when
explaining it was a good series......Not exactly the right place to
introduce her to the series. :P

...But then again, I would have lost her in the first minute of episode
one where Rick has to shoot a little zombie girl in the gas station....
Her seat on the couch would not have even gotten warm before she was out
of there...She doesn't "do" horror.... lol

I managed to get her to watch "The Stand" once, but it wasn't as
graphic... :)

I only just got to the end of the episode in season 2 where Shane and
Otis just got trapped by walkers at the High school getting FEMA medical
supplies for Carl... :)

That's your problem she should have watched from the very start of episode 1
(well just after he shot the little girl), by the time you see the first
walkers you are sucked in the story :). My wife was all is rick going to
find his wife and son, is he going to survive, is his wife going to survive
etc :)

Just killed him for the first time (they upped the spawnrate this
week) and omfg that is insane. I only died 5 times lol, oneshot most
of them, totally unavoidable! I have no idea how a single raid could
actually kill him tbh, we only did it because with what looked like at
least 100 people, there was always enough alive (and not waiting out
the 2 mins res timer) to keep him in combat... rather wise people on
general told everyone never mind rotations just get your dots up as
soon as you res, seems the only way as nobody stayed alive more than
10 sec :-P Absolutely crazy stuff but a good laugh, and he kindly gave
me a 522 belt which eased the pain of the 75g repair bill ;-)

http://www.wowpedia.org/Ooondasta_Guild_Run

"Ooondasta Guild Run is an achievement that is awarded for defeating
Oondasta on the Isle of Giants in a raid with at least 8 guild members."

So the good news it doesn't seem difficult for the guild achieve
scheduled for this weekend, besides the obvious actual defeat of the
boss....8 will do it. :)

And killed for the second time just now (on druid), erm... I think my
priest got lucky? Many many wipes, me and my bf between us spent
around 630g on guildbank repairs, can't really say the 29g prize was
worth it lol. Was a heck of a laugh though, but at that price we won't
be doing it every week :-P

Just did it for the first time last night....and I don't know what
happened based on what I was expecting, but I was disappointed for all
the hype. Waited around for 40 minutes until all groups were ready.
Were told to wait down on the beach, then one tank and a few healers
went up, pulled him down the cliff to the water and kept him facing the
ocean, near the graveyard while everyone stayed behind him and nuked
him. I timed the entire fight at 2 min 11 sec... I didn't die, and
hardly took damage and just stood in one spot. The melee seemed to die
a bit and the one one or two tanks went down. There seemed to be a lot
of people, and it was mentioned that there were 3 groups. There could
have been a partial 4th...dunno. So I guess that would have made it
80ish players. I got dinosaur crap that had gold and a bonus role of
gold.... I also noticed something weird. While we were waiting, I
clicked on him and saw his health somewhere around 842M....As he was
coming down the cliff before we started hitting him, he showed full
health, but was about 420M. Anyone know what that was about? His
health cut in half when he got pulled.

I will say, I did have a bunch of fun in the 40 minutes of waiting
though. A small group of us went off and were killing dinosaurs. Got
about 100 bones...Someone also arranged a fishing derby on the beach and
it was funny seeing about 40 lines in the water. :)

Wow, you got the perfect run there! That's how it's *supposed* to go
but it never did lol, my priest at least killed him first try
(although I arrived as a wipe was in progress, so I don't know how
many wipes were before it) but with my druid it was just a disaster,
we were never doing enough damage to begin with and once his dmg
stacked up, then waiting out res timers (be alive between 0 and 5 sec,
maybe 15 sec if I popped a cd or three, then wait 2 mins...) wrecked
our dps.

Melee is not a fun place to be on him, you need to spread out to avoid
his chaining ability which increases dmg with every person it hits,
and even with his big hitbox you just can't spread enough. At one
point I thought I was doing well, only had one person in the range
finder on DBM... it chained off that one person having been round what
must've been about 50 others I think, hit me for 150 million dmg. Yes,
I did count the numbers to be sure, it was 150 million, not 15 :-O

Btw groups go to 40 in the world, not 25, so it would've been over 120
players if there were 3 full groups and a bit more.

Weird one, haven't seen that! Would've been rather handy for us,
generally by the time we got him that low his dmg was up enough that
everything he did oneshot half of us...

Hehe sounds fun. I need to go dinosaur farming, want a few things
there, only problem is it's really slow going soloing them, so I'd
need to group up to do it I think, and me and grouping don't mix well
:-P

Oh - duh...of course. Now tbh, it didn't look like that many people,
but could be wrong. Reason it took 40 min was that they were having
issues getting a 2nd group started, and then during that 40 min people
had to go and left group, so constant swapping in and out. I think we
met up with another group forming and combined. So maybe it was two
full groups...I would guess there were about 80-100 based on what I saw.
I was cognizant enough to remember just befor he pulled to open up my
settings and dquickly drag my graphics slide from ultra to low, and it
was still a tad jumpy. Could only imagine if I left it on ultra for
that fight.. :P

Game looks like crap on low....Feels like fighting on a foggy day at the
beach... :)

It was fun - I had just switched to frost spec, which I haven't played
since leveling to 90 and was very rusty so I wanted to get some practice
under my belt, so it was practice for me as well. Have to get more
rounds under my belt to get comfortable - only due to the "finger
memory". I have a frostbolt set up as the same key as AB was, and I try
to keep things common to both specs to the same keys (Ice Block, frost
nova, etc). But I still have to change some other stuff to make sense.
I see Ice lance proc, and I instinctively hit a key that would be my
arcane missiles and accidentally start a long cast for an unproc'd
frostfire bolt....Just gotta work some stuff out and retrain the
fingers. It was coming back to me....lol

I guess I should have held back my "dissapointed" comment until I ran it
a few times and maybe see what it's like when I heal it. I may find
that I really stepped in crap (in the good way, of course) in getting
with that group.... :)

Hehe yeah, I'm very surprised my pc handled it nicely, despite the
enormous pile of skeletons and numbers of people. Granted I'm not on
full ultra, but I've got most things on maximum and rest one notch
down, no issues (on a related note, I think Blizz maybe did something
about the post patch problems, I haven't had a massive fps drop for
several days now and far fewer small hiccups). If I want to dualbox
though, my pc really really hates that with both copies on high, so
I've got a second copy of the game set up: different hard drive, no
addons, everything on low. Wow, the difference in quality, I hadn't
realised how big it was till I did that!

Sure would explain it, sounds like a bug anyway, but a very handy one
indeed!

Hehe based on my experiences you got a very easy run indeed. Healing
is mildly pointless after the first few minutes btw, since everything
he does is a one-shot ability once he has a few stacks of extra dmg,
meaning, you can heal up the newly ressed folk if you want but they'll
only die again next time he roars :-P I regretted switching to Holy
spec for the fight, would've been more use in Disc putting a bit of
dps out in my limited alive time!

Ah, not a bug! http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/257467-oondasta/
Deliberate it seems, just have to pull/maybe reset to get it to show
the new value. That changed after I did it, that's for sure lol... :-P

you beat me to it I just wanted to post this :)
well i must say my pc really didn't like that many players around haha.
I turned everything to ultra low and sound off to be able to play along
the second time I went (and failed, because of bad coordination of groups)

Ah -

Well, while appreciate the idea and (former) difficulty, albeit I didn't
get to kill him at 842M health I agree that they probably had to tone it
back. I read they had some server crashes, as well as trying to
coordinate 100+ people with no simple way to coordinate via raid chats.
Not saying it was impossible (obviously it wasn't) but as time goes
by, it would have become increasingly difficult to get a group of enough
players together to get him.

He was only at designed health for 2 weeks. I commend all of you who
had the chance and downed him as designed during that time. Think you
should get a feat of strength for that. :) Had I known they were
planning this I would have made more an effort to get in to experience
it as you guys did. As I said - I felt a little let disappointed, but
I'm glad to see it wasn't due to any hype, but to a nerf....

...Now - they need to address the worst quest in the game I've ever
experienced that was introduced....The Crumbled Chamberlain. This must
be the most absurd quest for the reward given in game. It comes with
phase 3, has 4 parts you have to collect from various spawn points all
over the island, (so all 4 spawn at different locations), is for both
Ally & Horde, and once is picked up, it spawns later at a different time
AND can only be picked up by one player. It took me two days to
complete it due to people camping out various spawn points, and diving
for it if and when it came up. I read of people staying in a spot for
30 minutes and missing it when it came up.
The reward? A stone....one stone of three you need for the group quest
line....Now if it were an extra key to the treasure trove, maybe...but I
will never do this quest again. Thank GOD it is not part of the dailies.
I don't know what intern thought this would be a great addition, but
that person needs to be sentenced to 30 days at a Chinese Warcraft gold
farming prison.... :)

Yep, especially as a good number would likely get sick of the repair
bills, he's a novelty at the moment but after a few kills and massive
repairbills I think people would get bored. Surprised they went as far
as halving it; I'd have put him to 600M myself, but I can see why it's
been done. 2 hours wiping is a laugh, once, but not something you'll
want to do often unless they buffed him to guaranteed loot for your
trouble...

They already fixed that a couple of days back, it spawns in the same
place constantly for a day now. I was wondering what everyone was
complaining about, since I first encountered it after the fix went in!

Nothing wrong with it since they fixed it, I personally found it
really fun, trying to figure out how to reach the weirdly placed ones
lol. Before the fix, I'd agree, whoever thought it was a good idea to
have the spawns change every time someone looted must have never
played on a server with more than extremely low pop :-P

They probably halved it as most went in and could, (if done correctly),
down him with two raid groups (80 players). So they probably figured
that if they halve it, then a single 40 man raid group could down him
now. So that explains why I was felt like "That was it? really?!?"
when after 2 minutes it was over. We had a group over double than what
was required. Imagine how long the Sha or Gallion would stay alive if
100 people are attacking him? :)

OK then...I did the quest before the fix. I saw the "!" on the stairs
last night with my alt and said "Not on your life am I touching that"
heh....

Before the fix, I'd agree, whoever thought it was a good idea to

'Zactly...Don't mind the funky placed items. That I agree was
interesting / fun...Does the item still remain in place after someone
picks it up (available for all) or does it still have to spawn? If it
is still a first come, first get item I still wont do it then. Now it's
in one spot so people may just be standing around it waiting to pounce,
knowing it'll be there. Before, some camped, while others ran off to
check other locations... Again, the reward just wasn't worth the
investment in time.

Side note: While jumping in lizard form looking for the shoulders I was
jumping the rocks with HUGE jumps. I jumped from the top of one cliff
and overshot the next....and landed in the middle of 10 mobs sitting
around a fire with that floating skeletal boss thing... No prob...theyre
all yellow to me...pals...buddies...Apparently, the area is juuuust
outside the required disguise area, and right after I land, I turn back
to normal form and the whole planet jumped me....I felt like the looney
toon Yosemite Sam as he's floating down to his pirate ship laughing,
then slowly stops laughing and changes to "uh-oh" as he floats down
through the open hatch to the big smiling shark in the hold below...

It stays in place permanently for the day, everyone can loot one after
the other, thankfully!

Haha I can just picture that one! Very easy to do lol, I've found
myself headed further than intended on those jumps too, absolutely
love that form though, wish it could be used everywhere!
