Map editor questions - Start points - colors

I tried to make a map by editing one of the maps that comes with Warcraft
(Alamo)

Start points:
My buddy and I want to have a map for 2 players where we always start at
opposite corners rather than side by side. We decided to eliminate all the
starting points but 2 to ensure positions.
We would prefer to have a way of randomizing more start points but I imagine
that doing so you could not garantee opposite side starts. I thought of
having 3 orc starts and 3 human starts but we do not always want to limit it
to Humans on the north and Orcs on the south either.

What we would like is 3 random start points for North player and 3 for the
South player but random as to which player gets North and which gets South.
That way we are far enough apart and yet we do not know which of the
possible 3 spots the enemy is in. or know in advance which side we get. We
could take turns or toss a coin if we could control player 1 North or South
but I can't even see that

Player Colors:
We want one player red and one green (orcs and humans) but player 1 is red
and 3 is green. Is it ok to set 1 and 3 as human and the others all as
computer? There is no "NO PLAYER" choices. Is this the correct way do set
prefered colors or can we change the player 2 to green? Can't see how

The one time we tried to test it the game did not start and awarded us both
victories. My guess was that it does not like skipping over player 2

One thing that bothers me is that there is no real doccumentation for the
map editor. The help section is skimpy and there is nothing in the manual.
Most of it seems straight forward but we find it lacking in instrucion to
say the least.

One of the problems we encounter in playing a built in map is a lack of
gold. We always run out just as the game gets to the higher level units and
the battle gets heated (providing ther is no quick victory). Any
recomendations as to a good but not too generous amount of gold to put in a
mine 35000 in 2 mines does not seem to cut it and we don't want unlimited
gold either. The slider goes over 600000, seems like a lot.

Thanks for the suggestions
