ARE YOU? Completely different laws of physics pertain to Star Wars-style hyperspace, and nearly every other kind of theoretical faster-than-light travel. Most of them work by shifting into or otherwise utilizing some sort of alternate dimension or reality, conveniently "bypassing" the speed of light. Speed of light travel is still impossible in Star Wars, but hyperspace is a shortcut around it. BTW, have you ever noticed how egregiously all these sci-fi movies violate basic laws of reaction and inertia? When I am feeling picky, it never ceases to amuse me how spaceships have to apply thrust to travel at a _constant_ speed, and slow down when thrust is removed. In addition, nearly every space-combat game does exactly the same thing! I won't even mention transmission of sound through a vacuum... Of course, I know perfectly well the reasons for the unrealism - the movies would be BORING without it. :) -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- | John M.
