You all seem to have one basic problem of understanding, which is quite
normal for beings living in sub relativisitc environments (means being
significantly slower than light :-). The problem is: Space and time are no
constants. Lightspeed is the one constant that matters. No matter how fast
you travel you always perceive lightspeed to be the same no matter in
which direction light travels from you.
The rest is simple mathematics...
If you approach lightspeed space will dilate for you, i.e. you perceive
the distance you travel to become shorter. For an external observer it
will seem like your time is running slower.
Of course you can never reach lightspeed since your mass is also dilating
(it grows), when you want to accelerate any material to lightspeed it will
take infinite power to do so.
If you really want to understand the concept ge a book about Einsteins
Theory of Special Relativity. Don't try to start with the general theory,
it is MUCH harder. And don't get the original script, get something that
explains the theory.
