"Willy" <wan...@rogers.wave.ca> caused this to appear in our collective minds on Wed, 11 Feb 1998 00:14:09 -0500:

I don't quite understand this... True, the country did not win Viet Nam in any
sense of the word (unless delaying a near-inevitable counts as victory)
but it would seem that your typical anti-American prejudice is showing again,
Willy. Quite frankly, America and Russia together won World War II -- with
some small degree of aid from the British. America outright won Korea --
unless you consider the remnant tension a sign of defeat, which would
mean no war on the face of the planet was ever truly won -- and World
War I could not have been ended as quickly without aid from the United
States.

However, this is all side-issue, because clearly you do not intend to make
intelligent argument. You have made a snide comment which has left
your poor, uneasy soul temporarily satisfied, as if insulting America could
possibly cause Canada's deep problems -- or perhaps your own -- to disappear.
War is really very bad economics, because it screws with the budget and
allows the government to stifle all non-military technological advancement.
The economic "boom" after wars is an attempt to revive a stagnated
economy, nothing more. All a war ever does is ease the coming of another war.

Your deliberate ignorance of the central point of Jhee's comment, that soldiers
tend to be killed in war and therefore their concern about them would be
understandable, does not facilitate acceptance of your philosophy.

Finally, your insuation through the use of quotes that the Persian Gulf situation
(Desert Storm) was not a war is extremely immature. You are a master at
insuated argument, Willy. Perhaps someday you'll find a more useful hobby.

(for the pacification of other readers, Persian Gulf clearly fits the dictionary
specification of a war; the completel imblanace of force size and technology does
not lessen this, nor does the nature of the situation)
