Theory and hypothesis are the same thing.

ref. American Heritage Dictionary:

Theory:
1.a Systematically organized knowlege .... b. Such knowlege or such a system.
2. Abstract reasoning speculation. 3. A beleif that guides action or assists
comprehension or judgement. 4. An assumption based on limited information or
knowledge; a conjecture.

Hypothesis:
1. A tentative explanation that account for a set of facts and can be tested
by further investigation; a theory. 2. Something taken to be true for the
porpouse of argument or investigation; an assumption. 3. The antecedent of a
conditional statement.

Nevertheless, scientific theories like athletic records are bound to be broken
or discredited. Not even Einstein is absolute.
