A few pointers.

velocity IS speed of travel...relative to what fixed point where?
accelleration IS the change in one's velocity over a period of time.

This is to say that if you are travelling at 1000 whatever units of
measure per whatever units of time at one moment....this is your
velocity. Then at another moment (chronological point of measure) you
are traveling at oh 100 times the previous reference, these two speed
(velocity) references are static velocities. The references one would
make to accelleration refer speciffically to the period in which the
object was transitioning from the former velocity to the latter.
If you are going 55MPH on the freeway and accellerate to 65 MPH in a
five second period, this period is the time in which the accellaration
takes place. The end velocity of 65 MPH itself is not accelleration-
it is velocity or speed of travel with reference to a "fixed" point.
The period during which the change in speed was occuring is the
accelleration "frame". Accelleration rate is the quickness in which the
change in speed occurs. If one spent one hour changing from 55mph to
65mph the g-force "felt" would be negligible. If one made the change in
one second then one would notice an appreciable g-force 180 degrees out
of phase with the direction of accelleration. Please forgive the
misspellings.
