A word about time dilation. There is only a time dialation during acceleration. Time flows more slowly the higher the acceleration is. This can/has been tested on Earth. The Gravity we feel is acceleration. We are acceleratiog towards the center of the Earth at a rate of 9.8 m/sec. This changes with altitude. The closer to the center the higher the acceleration. So, time travels more slowly at sea level than it does at 10,000 meters. (Note: this is a very small amount). If a space ship is traveling the speed of light at a constant rate, there will be no time dilation due to acceleration. Now, take a spaceship that accelerates at a high rate for a year, depending on the rate of the ships acceleration 10 to 10,000 years may have passed on Earth. You could use a black hole in 2 ways: Slingshot. This will accelerate you to a very high rate in a very short time. Or, just as a center of gravity to accelerate against. If a ship was able to maintain position within the pull of a black hole for long periods of time greater dilations could be produced. The good part is you are not really moving from linear point to point. The trick is how do we withstand these large accelerations?
